Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joaquin Herman (ranked 6050 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Roy (ranked 3558 p4p, 372 weight class). Matthew Roy will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joaquin Herman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Roy!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herman shoots in and gets a takedown into Roy's guard.

Roy manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Herman really is a fat lump.

Roy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Herman fails with a takedown attempt.
Roy shoots in looking for a takedown but Herman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Herman swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Roy has taken the fight to the clinch.
Herman is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Roy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Roy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Herman manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Herman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Roy throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roy can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Roy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Herman circles away.

Herman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roy avoids it really well and circles away.

Herman shoots in for a takedown but Roy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Roy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roy lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Roy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Herman is on top in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Roy is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Herman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Roy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Roy has taken the fight to the clinch.

Roy manages to break the clinch.

Roy has closed the distance and engaged Herman in a clinch.
Roy is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Herman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Herman is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Roy lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Roy just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromHerman.

Herman fails with a takedown attempt.
Roy lands with a kick to the temple. Herman shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Nice takedown defense from Roy. No joy for Herman on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joaquin Herman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Herman shoots in but Roy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Herman tries for a takedown but Roy sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Roy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Herman has his takedown stuffed
and Roy counters with a left and a right that stings Herman.
No luck for Roy with that takedown attempt.

Roy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Herman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Herman is working to avoid the ground and pound but Roy connects with a decent elbow.
Herman is pushing Roy's head away, looking to escape. Roy manages to hold on to the position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roy scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Roy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Roy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Herman keeps working.
Herman is looking to improve his position.
Herman has hold of Roy's hands but Roy slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Herman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roy is working away from the top position though.
Herman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Roy scores with a couple of nice shots.

Roy is continuing to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Roy shoots in and gets a takedown into Herman's guard.
Herman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Matthew Roy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Matthew Roy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Roy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
