PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between john jan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Saarinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saarinen has chosen Who's Your Daddy as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, john jan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Niko Saarinen!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

jan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Saarinen to the mat! Saarinen manages to get full guard.
jan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

jan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Saarinen is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Saarinen has escaped and now he's on top!
jan throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

jan looking for a guillotine here but Saarinen defends easily.

Saarinen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Saarinen trying to control but jan is working from the bottom.
Saarinen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

jan has his foot on Saarinen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Saarinen works his way back into a safe position though.

jan throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

jan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Saarinen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Saarinen is stalling in the full guard.

jan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Saarinen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

jan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saarinen forces his way into half guard.
jan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Saarinen trying to control the action but jan is working from the bottom.
Saarinen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

jan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

jan is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Saarinen pulls his head out easily.
Saarinen wants to take a breather but jan is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

jan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
jan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Saarinen is trying to keep jan in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

jan drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Saarinen dives on top into guard.

jan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Saarinen passes into side control.
jan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Saarinen looks up at the clock and then as jan takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Saarinen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Saarinen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down jan's shoulder. That is not cool.
jan manages to work his way to half guard, despite Saarinen's best efforts.

jan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Saarinen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but jan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
jan wants to improve his position but Saarinen is controlling well.
jan won't allow Saarinen to pass to mount.

jan is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Saarinen pulls his head out easily.
Saarinen is keen to just control but jan is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Saarinen swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Saarinen shoots in and drives through. jan sprawls well.

jan gets a takedown into half guard.
Saarinen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. jan is working away from the top position though.
Saarinen looks gassed!

jan is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Saarinen!

Saarinen tries to hold on but jan pushes him away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, jan cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
jan fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
jan putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

jan is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Saarinen has managed to escape the submission attempt.

jan is going olschool here, as he tries to force Saarinen to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Saarinen shrugs it off.

jan working for a submission but Saarinen is keeping him at bay.

jan wants to finish this one by submission but Saarinen is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from jan.
jan fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

jan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Saarinen has worked his arm free - good work by Saarinen!

jan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Saarinen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.

jan swings around for an armbar but Saarinen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into jan's guard.

Saarinen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on jan, up you get!
Saarinen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Excellent takedown into side control there by jan.
Saarinen is trying to control jan's posture but jan avoids it.
Saarinen defending against the ground and pound.
Saarinen regains half guard.
Saarinen trying to hold on to jan's head to control him but jan postures up.

jan seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Saarinen is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
