Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Wayne Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Hickson!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice inside leg kick there by Gracie. That's going to slow Hickson down.
Gracie stuns Hickson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Gracie drives through and clinches with Hickson against the cage.
Hickson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hickson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gracie gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gracie works on Hickson's body with a couple of short punches.
Gracie lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hickson backwards.


It looks like Bobby Hickson has been cut.
Gracie lands an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hickson.
John Wayne Gracie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Hickson.
Gracie slows down the pace here.

Gracie pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Nice takedown defense from Gracie. No joy for Hickson on that attempt.

Gracie cracks Hickson with an uppercut from hell and Hickson crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Gracie's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Gracie controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hickson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gracie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hickson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gracie cracks Hickson with a solid left hand.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Gracie distracts Hickson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gracie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gracie chips away with some ground and pound.
Gracie sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Hickson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gracie controls from within his opponent's guard.
Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hickson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Wayne Gracie dominated that round.

Gracie connects with a crisp jab.
Gracie throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Hickson misses with a takedown

and Gracie counters with a left hand that sends Hickson to the canvas!


Hickson is rocked!
Gracie arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Hickson's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). John Wayne Gracie!
