Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chance Shamrock (ranked 3664 p4p, 370 weight class) and Don Leaf (ranked 6963 p4p, 545 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chance Shamrock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leaf with a poor takedown
and Shamrock counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Shamrock displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Leaf.
Leaf darts in looking for a takedown but Shamrock gets double underhooks and turns Leaf into the cage.
Chance Shamrock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Leaf.
Leaf throws a nice outside leg kick.

Shamrock has managed to clinch.

Shamrock escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Shamrock clinches up against the cage.
Leaf lands an elbow just above Shamrock 's eye.


It looks like Chance Shamrock has been cut.
Leaf is trying to drag Shamrock to the mat but Shamrock just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Shamrock throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shamrock jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Leaf walks away with a smile on his face. Shamrock gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Shamrock scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Leaf throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Leaf stuffs the takedown attempt from Shamrock. Shamrock gets slowly back to his feet.

Oooooh!!! Shamrock has knocked Leaf down with a huge combo! Shamrock steps away and waves a wobbly Leaf back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


It looks like Don Leaf has been cut.
Shamrock tries to clinch up but Leaf circles away and keeps his distance.

Shamrock shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Leaf manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Shamrock keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Leaf is looking to take this one to the mat.

Leaf escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chance Shamrock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shamrock lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Leaf shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shamrock as he jumps to the side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shamrock drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shamrock is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Shamrock trying to control but Leaf is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leaf wants to stand and escape but Shamrock is having none of it.
Shamrock wants to control from the top but Leaf keeps moving.
Leaf wants to sweep here but Shamrock controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Leaf is looking for a triangle but Shamrock pushes his legs off easily.
Leaf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shamrock postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Leaf is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shamrock, into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shamrock is not content to let Leaf control the position.
Shamrock trying to remain calm as Leaf controls from the top position.

That was a close round but I would say that Chance Shamrock will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Leaf closes the distance and clinches.
Shamrock is looking to break free of the clinch but Leaf has double underhooks.
Leaf is looking for a takedown.

Leaf breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chance Shamrock is winning the standup battle so far.

Shamrock moves into the clinch.
Leaf is looking to control Shamrock's arms but Shamrock gets an underhook and turns him. Now Leaf has his back to the cage.
Leaf is pressed up against the cage. Shamrock has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Leaf down to the mat. Leaf avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
No joy there for Leaf, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shamrock closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Leaf did well to prevent Shamrock getting side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shamrock is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Don Leaf has got the better of the ground game so far.
Leaf manages to get to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Leaf throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Shamrock trying to control but Leaf is working from the bottom.

Leaf had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shamrock defends it easily.
Leaf tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Leaf controls Shamrock momentarily but Shamrock frees himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Leaf circles away.
Shamrock tries to close the distance and clinch up but Leaf swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Leaf goes for a double leg but Shamrock avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Shamrock continues to drive forward.
Shamrock looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Leaf is fending him off so far but Shamrock persists. Nope, Leaf circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chance Shamrock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shamrock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Leaf.
Shamrock avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Shamrock seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Shamrock fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Leaf sprawls well initially but Shamrock persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Leaf is breathing heavily.
Leaf gets back to full guard.
Shamrock passes Leaf's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Leaf defends it well.

Shamrock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Leaf on the ground.
Leaf wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shamrock looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chance Shamrock will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Shamrock avoids the head kick by Leaf.

Shamrock feints and as Leaf raises his hands in defense, Shamrock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Leaf manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Leaf lands a good knee to the midsection. Shamrock won't want to take too many of those.

Leaf pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shamrock swats away the attempt to clinch by Leaf.
Shamrock tries to score a power double leg takedown but Leaf sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shamrock somewhat.
Leaf fails in his attempt to clinch.
Chance Shamrock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Leaf rushes Shamrock and presses him up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shamrock missing with knees to the body.
Leaf has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shamrock after a bit of a struggle.

Shamrock just leaning against Leaf, taking a breather.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Shamrock.
Shamrock gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Leaf.
Shamrock wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Leaf has him pressed against the cage.
Leaf fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Leaf takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Leaf is looking to break free of the clinch but Shamrock has double underhooks.
Shamrock tries to land a knee to the head but Leaf blocks with his arms.

Leaf breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shamrock slaps away a takedown attempt from Leaf, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Shamrock takes the fight into the clinch.
Leaf goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shamrock prevents it.

Leaf is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Shamrock is keeping busy.

Shamrock wants the takedown. Leaf is fighting it off but Shamrock persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Leaf's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leaf working for submissions but it's allowed Shamrock to get to half guard.
Shamrock is controlling the pace.
Leaf wants to control the action here but instead Shamrock manages to pass to full mount!
Leaf is desperately trying to improve his position but Shamrock has a good base and remains in mount.
Shamrock content just to control the position here.

Shamrock is landing with some decent strikes but Leaf is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Shamrock trying to control but Leaf is having none of it.
Leaf tries to lock up and control but Shamrock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Leaf is in a horrible position here. Shamrock smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Shamrock looking to control but Leaf is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Don Leaf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chance Shamrock is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chance Shamrock showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Shamrock has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
