PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wilburn Moran (ranked 4763 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Grenier (ranked 4714 p4p, 434 weight class). Grenier comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ransom kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Moran gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Grenier is trying to break the clinch but Moran has him pressed against the cage.
Moran jumps guard but Grenier stands there with Moran around his waist. Moran gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Grenier lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Grenier tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Moran avoids it.
Grenier tries to pull guard but Moran forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Grenier is trying to push Moran away but Moran has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Moran fails to pull guard.

Moran jumps into guard, dragging Grenier to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grenier is looking to work some ground and pound but Moran has wrist control.

Grenier postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Moran is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Grenier, into his guard.

Moran stays in close to Grenier's body and controls the position.
Grenier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Grenier manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Grenier has had enough of the clinch but Moran keeps him there for the moment.
Moran is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Grenier pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Grenier gets control of Moran's arms and successfully pulls guard. Grenier will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Grenier had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moran defends it easily.
Moran throws a big elbow that misses.
Moran is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Grenier is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Moran is controlling him.
Grenier is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Moran chips away with some ground and pound.
Moran seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Grenier is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Moran blocks a leg kick.
Grenier throws a push kick but Moran slaps the foot to one side.
Grenier shoots in looking for a takedown. Moran tries to sprawl out of it but Grenier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Moran manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Moran closes the distance and clinches.

Grenier wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Grenier tries to circle away but Moran has him pinned against the cage.

Moran pulls guard successfully.
Grenier loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Moran has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Grenier is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Moran.
Grenier wants to lay and pray for a moment but Moran keeps working.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Grenier has eaten all the pies!

Moran dodges the ground and pound from Grenier.

Grenier drives through and clinches with Moran against the cage.
Moran has Grenier pressed against the cage, preventing Grenier from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Moran stands up over Grenier, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Grenier wants to get back to his feet but Moran is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Moran blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Moran keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Grenier's efforts to push away.

Grenier is looking for a triangle but Moran pushes his legs off easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Grenier shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Moran defends it nicely.
It looked like Moran was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Moran misses with a body kick.

Moran keeps Grenier at a distance using the push kick.

Grenier pushes Moran up against the cage in a clinch.

Moran pulls guard effortlessly.

Moran is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grenier defends well.

Grenier has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Moran to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Grenier is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Moran pulls down on the head and he's put Grenier to sleep! This one is all over!
