Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hobert Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Guizera Costa!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Costa is looking to take this one to the mat.
Butler fails to pull guard.
Costa gets underhooks to prevent Butler's takedown attempt.
Costa managing to block the knees to the body from Butler.

Costa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Costa looks for a takedown but Butler sprawls well.
Butler throws a counter high kick but Costa was just alert enough to avoid it.

Costa drives through and clinches with Butler against the cage.

Costa pulls guard successfully.
Butler wants to stand but Costa has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Costa seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Butler trying to control but Costa is working from the bottom.
Costa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Butler controls from within his opponent's guard.
Butler has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Costa is proving hard to escape from.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Costa has Butler pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Costa fails with a takedown attempt.
Hobert Butler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guizera Costa.
Costa misses with a series of wild punches.
Costa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Butler swivels and escapes.
Butler seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

With the fighters up against the cage, Costa throws an elbow but misses.

Butler jumps guard but Costa turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
A nice right hand lands inside from Butler.
Costa avoiding damage as Butler throws knees to the body.

Butler jumps into guard, dragging Costa to the mat.

Butler has his foot on Costa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Costa works his way back into a safe position though.
Butler trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Costa is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Butler scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Butler shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Costa napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Costa tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Costa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Costa is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Costa struggling a bit here.
Butler lands a nice forearm strike.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butler tries to get to his feet but Costa is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Butler in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Butler stands up and waves to Costa to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hobert Butler will probably get the nod.

Costa tries to bum rush Butler with a series of wild strikes but Butler uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Guizera Costa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Costa is trying hard to land a takedown here. Butler sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Butler half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Butler gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Costa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Costa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Costa might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Butler haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Costa throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Butler on the side of the head.

The fighters are battling for position here. Butler manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Costa wants to control from the top but Butler keeps moving.
Butler throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Costa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Butler controls the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Butler can't find room to land a body shot as Costa controls the action.

Costa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Butler's guard.
Costa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hobert Butler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Costa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Butler is looking to escape.

Butler's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Butler bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Butler decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Butler is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Costa to keep the fight standing.

Costa cracks Butler with a solid left hand.
Costa engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Guizera Costa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Costa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Guizera Costa misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
