Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Seymour Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abul Khayr Belabed!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belabed with a lazy takedown attempt
and Hughes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Belabed fails to land the takedown.
Hughes throws a hook to the side of Belabed's head but Belabed sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Belabed changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Belabed shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hughes cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Seymour Hughes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abul Khayr Belabed.
Belabed looks for a takedown but Hughes sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes missing with a left hand there. Belabed was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Belabed feints the counter takedown.
Belabed with a poor takedown
and Hughes counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Belabed! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Hughes!

A determined Seymour Hughes didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
