PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Storm Mjolnir (ranked 4886 p4p, 483 weight class) and Kamaru Usman (ranked 4824 p4p, 479 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Peter Branson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Usman throws a leg kick

and Mjolnir counters with a crisp one two that drops Usman! Mjolnir thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Usman to his feet! Usman is in big trouble!
Mjolnir comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Usman looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Usman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Usman's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Usman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Usman stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Mjolnir gets caught napping as Usman dives in and scores a takedown. Mjolnir manages to retain guard.
Mjolnir wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Usman manages to pass to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mjolnir knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Usman on the ground.
Usman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
More stalling from Usman.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Usman passes to full mount!
Mjolnir is trying to stand but he's just given Usman his back.
Mjolnir is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kamaru Usman dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Usman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Usman is looking to take a break and control but Mjolnir is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Well, if Usman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Usman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mjolnir sees it coming and defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Usman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Mjolnir wants to get back to his feet.

Usman stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Usman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mjolnir is trying to defend but Usman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mjolnir scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Usman manages to mount him!

Usman looking to control and managing it successfully.
Mjolnir takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Usman controlling from mount.
Usman lands a couple of good shots and Mjolnir has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Usman is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Kamaru Usman has got the better of the ground game so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mjolnir is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kamaru Usman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

A jab from Usman misses.
Mjolnir looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Usman thows a leg kick but Mjolnir checks it
and Mjolnir counters with a one-two to the body.
Mjolnir swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Usman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mjolnir tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Usman is in Mjolnir's guard.

Mjolnir has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Usman off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mjolnir swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Usman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Usman.

Mjolnir is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Usman dives into side control.

Usman wants to control but Mjolnir is keeping him busy.

Mjolnir is trying to buck Usman off.
Usman slows the pace down.

Usman stands up and beckons Mjolnir to his feet.
Usman misses with a few strikes there.
Usman closes the distance but Mjolnir moves to the side
and Mjolnir counters with a nice body shot.
Storm Mjolnir has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kamaru Usman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Usman moves in looking to clinch but Mjolnir pushes him off.
Mjolnir appears to be looking for a big counter.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Storm Mjolnir.
I think Usman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
