PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Glenn Nielsen (ranked 4784 p4p, 0 weight class) and Goldilocks GammaBear (ranked 4539 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nielsen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nielsen tries to counter by clinching up but GammaBear breaks away and moves out of range.

GammaBear moves into the clinch successfully.
GammaBear misses with a hook to the ribs.
GammaBear throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Nielsens head.
GammaBear is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Nielsen is trying to pull guard but GammaBear has him pressed against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from GammaBear fails to land.
GammaBear misses with a punch on the inside.

Nielsen gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Nielsen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks GammaBear with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
GammaBear is controlling Nielsen's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Nielsen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
GammaBear works his way to full guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
GammaBear avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nielsen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Nielsen throws a strike but GammaBear rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nielsen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. GammaBear is aware though and is defending well.
Nielsen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
GammaBear slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
GammaBear slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nielsen wants to control but GammaBear postures up.
GammaBear taking a breather here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
GammaBear misses with the ground and pound.
Nielsen is looking for a sweep.
GammaBear moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Nielsen is pushing GammaBear's head away, looking to escape. GammaBear manages to hold on to the position though.
GammaBear just content to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that GammaBear has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Nielsen is looking to reverse the position.
GammaBear content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Nielsen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but GammaBear wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

GammaBear in side control lands a decent elbow.
GammaBear is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Nielsen wants to control but GammaBear postures up.
Nielsen is looking to reverse the position.

GammaBear is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nielsen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Nielsen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

An elbow from GammaBear crashes against the mat.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nielsen wants to control but GammaBear postures up.
Nielsen is looking to regain half guard here but GammaBear keeps moving and retains side control.
GammaBear happy to just control the position for now.
Nielsen is trying to control GammaBear's posture but GammaBear avoids it.
GammaBear is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nielsen's shoulder. That is not cool.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

GammaBear has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
GammaBear stops a takedown attempt from Nielsen.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
GammaBear lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Nielsen or not.
Nielsen fails to pull the fight into his guard.

GammaBear drops Nielsen onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Nielsen is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!
