PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Warner Pickett (ranked 24660 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tschechov Emilienko (ranked 4728 p4p, 467 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Warner Pickett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tschechov Emilienko!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emilienko pushes Pickett up against the cage in a clinch.

Emilienko pulls guard successfully.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Emilienko is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pickett keeping hold of Emilienko's head, controlling as best he can.
Pickett has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pickett has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Emilienko is on him like a limpet, forcing Pickett back against the cage.

Emilienko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tschechov Emilienko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pickett tries to clinch but Emilienko moves out of range.
Emilienko unleashes a big counter combination but Pickett bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Pickett fails in his attempt to clinch.

Pickett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Emilienko did well to prevent Pickett getting side control.
Emilienko scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Pickett manages to mount him!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Emilienko is looking to improve his position but Pickett isn't that keen on the idea.

Emilienko tries to buck Pickett off but he can't manage it.
Pickett throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Emilienko is working to get back to half guard.
Pickett throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Pickett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Emilienko is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Emilienko is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Emilienko is desperately trying to improve his position but Pickett has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pickett looking to control but Emilienko is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Emilienko is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Emilienko tries to hold on but Pickett postures up.
Emilienko is trying to escape the mount.
Emilienko regains half guard.

Emilienko tries to get to full guard but Pickett has control of the leg.
Pickett looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Pickett seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Emilienko is trying to control but can't.
Pickett landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Emilienko is looking to control Pickett's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Emilienko avoid being mounted?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pickett missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Pickett is keen to just control but Emilienko is a slippery customer.
Emilienko is looking to improve his position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Emilienko looks to land a combination but Pickett avoids it well.

Emilienko changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pickett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Emilienko misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Pickett is looking to regain half guard here but Emilienko keeps moving and retains side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tschechov Emilienko will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Emilienko moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Warner Pickett has been cut.
Emilienko misses with a series of wild punches.
Pickett is looking to clinch but Emilienko is avoiding it.
Emilienko keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Emilienko rushes Pickett and presses him up against the cage.

Emilienko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Warner Pickett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Emilienko feints with a jab and clips Pickett right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Pickett is sent crashing into the canvas and Emilienko leaps in for the kill! Pickett tries to get to his feet but Emilienko is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Pickett is in need of a savior and steps in!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tschechov Emilienko!
Tschechov Emilienko decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
