Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jerald Mendoza (ranked 4752 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syco Souirrel (ranked 2992 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerald Mendoza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Syco Souirrel!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souirrel rushes Mendoza and presses him up against the cage.
Souirrel can't break the clinch.
Mendoza tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Souirrel just stands there and leans against the cage.
Souirrel is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Mendoza is looking to break free of the clinch but Souirrel has double underhooks.

Souirrel has picked Mendoza up - he's going for a ride! Souirrel dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Souirrel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mendoza wants to control but Souirrel is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendoza is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Souirrel is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Still in half guard, Souirrel seems content to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Souirrel misses with a two punch combination.
Syco Souirrel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Souirrel has Mendoza up against the cage in a clinch.

Mendoza breaks from the clinch.

Souirrel takes the fight into the clinch.

Mendoza pulls guard.
Mendoza is pulling down on Souirrel's head to control his posture.
Souirrel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Souirrel stands and steps away. Mendoza gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A head kick misses from Souirrel.

Souirrel fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mendoza to the ground. Souirrel is now in Mendoza's guard.

Souirrel stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Mendoza lands a head kick. Souirrel smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Mendoza tries to clinch but Souirrel moves out of range.

Souirrel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Souirrel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Souirrel has control of an arm but Mendoza manages to advance to Souirrel's back!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mendoza patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Souirrel is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Mendoza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Souirrel looks winded!
Can Souirrel hold on?! Mendoza is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Souirrel wants to get back to his feet.
Mendoza misses with a punch to the head.
Mendoza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
I really don't envy Souirrel right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Syco Souirrel will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Mendoza gets caught napping as Souirrel dives in and scores a takedown. Mendoza manages to retain guard.

Mendoza has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Souirrel has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Mendoza has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mendoza makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Souirrel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Souirrel has his feet on Mendoza's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Mendoza throws a sloppy head kick and Souirrel moves out of range easily.
Mendoza connects with a high kick.
A combination from Souirrel does no damage.
It looked like Mendoza was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Souirrel is breathing heavily.
Mendoza tries to clinch up but Souirrel circles away and keeps his distance.

Mendoza closes the distance and clinches.

Souirrel decides to pull guard.
Mendoza lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Mendoza is in close to Souirrel's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Souirrel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mendoza in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mendoza stands up over Souirrel, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jerald Mendoza will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Mendoza tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Souirrel just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mendoza tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mendoza blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Mendoza pulls guard successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Souirrel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Souirrel is pushing down on Mendoza's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mendoza is fighting to maintain full guard but Souirrel has managed to sneak the leg through.

Souirrel seems to be working for a kimura but Mendoza defends the submission attempt.
Mendoza is trying to stand up here but Souirrel is controlling him well.

Souirrel decides to stand up.

Souirrel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mendoza bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Souirrel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mendoza wants to clinch.

Souirrel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mendoza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mendoza is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jerald Mendoza showed his dominance in that final round.
