Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
27 - 32 - 0, fighting out of New York, Baby Boy Harris!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotto lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Baby Boy Harris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Harris throws out a loose jab but Cotto uses good head movement to avoid it.
Some wild striking there from Harris.
Cotto throwing a counter right hand but Harris manages to avoid it.
Harris gets tackled into the ropes by Cotto. Cotto maintains the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cotto.
Harris lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A shot in the inside from Cotto.
Cotto works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Cotto tries a body shot but Harris blocks it.
Cotto misses with a hook from the clinch.
Harris doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Cotto can't break the clinch.
Harris tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Cotto lands a right hand.
Harris throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cottos head.
Cotto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cotto tries to close the distance and clinch but Harris swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Harris is looking for the big counter here.
Cotto buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Cotto lands a head kick that bluckles Harris and drops him to the canvas. He's still conscious but it looks like it's going to take him the full 10 seconds to get back his senses! He's up on 9 and seems to be just about OK to continue.... the referee agrees and we're back to the action with Cotto no doubt looking to push for a finish!
It looks like Baby Boy Harris has been cut.
Harris misses with a straight left.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Cotto cracks Harris with a left hand that drops him to the canvas, up against the ropes! Can Harris get back up in time? 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... he's on one knee... 8, 9... he's up! 'Walk towards me' says the referee. Harris looks steady enough to continue so we're going to continue!
Harris is rocked!
Cotto connects with an inside leg kick.
Harris is still on wobbly legs! Can Cotto finish him?
Nice body kick there by Cotto.
Cotto clinches up against the ropes.
Cotto breaks the clinch momentarily and cracks Harris with a big right hook that drops him to the canvas! Harris looks like he might be in big trouble here! The referee has started the count straight away and we're up to 5 already. Harris get to one knee - can he make it back to his feet? No, he's flopped back to the mat - he's out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Miguel Cotto!
Miguel Cotto tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
