The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Bernardo misses
and Whitehead counters by moving into the clinch.
Whitehead breaks from the clinch.
Bernardo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Whitehead's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Whitehead throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bernardo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bernardo tries to move to mount but Whitehead blocks the move with his legs.
Whitehead is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Bernardo is controlling him well.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bernardo is trying to get an arm triangle but Whitehead is defending well.
Bernardo stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Bernardo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bernardo cracks Whitehead with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Whitehead avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bernardo.
