PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Allen (ranked 5322 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eriks Tregubs (ranked 4639 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eriks Tregubs!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tregubs throws a head kick but Allen moves out of range.
Tregubs scores with a head kick. Allen tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Eriks Tregubs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Allen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tregubs pinned against the cage. Tregubs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tregubs keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Allen clinches with his opponent.
Tregubs taking a breather.

Allen jumps guard.
Tregubs preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tregubs stopping the sweep attempt from Allen.
Tregubs trying to control but Allen is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Allen wants to get back to his feet but Tregubs is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Tregubs wants to control from the top but Allen keeps moving.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tregubs wanted to stand there but Allen had control of the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Allen tried to score with a low kick but Tregubs checks it.
Tregubs lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tregubs throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Allen.
Tregubs looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Allen takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Tregubs throws a sloppy head kick and Allen moves out of range easily.

Allen clinches up with Tregubs and pushes him back against the cage.

Allen jumps guard.

Allen scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Allen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Tregubs dodges the ground and pound from Allen.
Allen throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Allen throws a strike aimed at the side of Tregubs's head but Tregubs avoids it well.
Allen just content to control the position.

Tregubs keeps Allen under control for a moment.
Allen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Allen in side control, throwing shots but Tregubs defends.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Allen decides to stand back up.
Tregubs tries to clinch but Allen moves out of range.
Allen fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tregubs moves into range and clinches up with Allen.
Tregubs tries to break free but Allen pushes him back against the cage.

Allen drags the fight down to the ground.
Tregubs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Allen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tregubs looks winded!
Allen throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Josh Allen will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Allen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tregubs tries to avoid it but Allen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tregubs to the ground. Tregubs escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tregubs tries a head kick but it misses.
Tregubs avoids the head kick by Allen.
Tregubs tries to clinch up but Allen circles away and keeps his distance.
Allen avoids the head kick by Tregubs.
Tregubs fails in his attempt to clinch.
Allen is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Tregubs.
Tregubs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Allen tries to avoid it but Tregubs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Allen to the ground. Allen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Allen throws a counter high kick but Tregubs was just alert enough to avoid it.
Allen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Tregubs gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Allen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Allen.
Tregubs is breathing heavily.
Allen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tregubs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Allen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tregubs uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Allen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tregubs is one step ahead there.
Tregubs tries to free his leg and advance position but Allen is retaining full guard.

Allen pulls Tregubs in close to his closed guard and prevents Tregubs from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tregubs being controlled here momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A clash of legs there as Tregubs blocks the low kick.
Allen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tregubs sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Allen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tregubs's waist but Tregubs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Allen off to one side.
Allen scores with a shot to the body.
Tregubs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Allen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tregubs is fending him off so far but Allen persists. Nope, Tregubs circles away and we're back to standing.
Tregubs lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Tregubs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Allen avoids the head kick by Tregubs.
Tregubs throws a head kick that misses.
Allen has a takedown stuffed.
Tregubs is looking to clinch but Allen is avoiding it.
Allen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tregubs's waist but Tregubs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Allen off to one side.
Allen shoots in for a takedown but Tregubs shows good takedown defense.
Tregubs throws a quick inside leg kick.

and Allen counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Tregubs is looking to clinch but Allen is avoiding it.
Tregubs tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Allen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Allen throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Tregubs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tregubs defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Allen.
Tregubs stuffs the takedown attempt from Allen. Allen gets slowly back to his feet.
Tregubs wants to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tregubs tries to clinch but Allen is having none of it.
Tregubs shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Allen sprawls well. Allen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tregubs gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Eriks Tregubs will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Allen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Allen avoiding damage as Tregubs throws knees to the body.

Allen pulls guard effortlessly.
Allen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Tregubs trying to control but Allen is working from the bottom.
Tregubs is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Allen has control of Tregubs's left arm, preventing Tregubs from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Allen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Allen looking for a sweep. Not yet Allen, not yet.

Allen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Tregubs content to stall in guard here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Allen counters by clinching up.
Allen avoids a wild elbow strike from Tregubs.

Allen is trying to trip Tregubs. He has hold of a leg but Tregubs is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Allen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Tregubs takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Allen gets to his feet. Tregubs looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Tregubs throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Allen's head.
Tregubs tries to clinch but Allen moves out of range.
Tregubs closes the distance looking to clinch
and Allen counters with a left to the body.
Tregubs throws a nice head kick!
Allen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tregubs pinned against the cage. Tregubs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Allen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tregubs, pushing him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice body punch from Allen - that landed with a thud.
Allen stalling the fight.

Allen gets control of Tregubs's arms and successfully pulls guard. Allen will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Allen looking for a sweep. Not yet Allen, not yet.
Allen pulls Tregubs in to control the position.
Allen continues to stall.
Allen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tregubs manages to get himself to full guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Allen advances to half guard.
Allen stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tregubs keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Allen showed his dominance in that final round.
