PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bunny Anstey (ranked 2528 p4p, 258 weight class) and Bob Brophy (ranked 2534 p4p, 259 weight class). Brophy has chosen The Grumpy Song as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bunny Anstey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Brophy!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anstey moves out of range of the body kick from Brophy.
Brophy lands with a straight right. Anstey didn't see that one coming.
Brophy with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Anstey to score with a decent uppercut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Anstey is defended easily by Brophy.
Brophy now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Anstey closes the distance and clinches up with Brophy, looking for a takedown. Anstey pushes Brophy against the ropes but Brophy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A decent looking cross lands there for Anstey.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anstey drives through with a takedown into Brophy's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Brophy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Anstey is trying to work for a kimura but Brophy is defending well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Anstey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brophy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Anstey wants to control for a moment but Brophy uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Anstey uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Brophy.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Anstey is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.
Anstey gets through Brophy's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Brophy throws a punch but it's blocked by Anstey.

Anstey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bunny Anstey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch lands to the side of Anstey 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Brophy counters with a stiff right hand.


Bunny Anstey's cut is getting worse.
Anstey swats away the attempt to clinch by Brophy.
It looked like Anstey wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Anstey has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Brophy finds it's way round the side to connect with Anstey's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Brophy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Anstey throws a combination that misses
and Brophy counters with a thumping low kick.
Well,Anstey is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?
Anstey looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Anstey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Brophy counters with a stiff right hand.
Anstey looks to throw the jab but Brophy is out of range.
Brophy is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Brophy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anstey manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circle momentarily. Anstey darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Brophy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brophy throws a shot from downtown. Anstey moves away and avoids it.
Anstey changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Anstey dives in and grabs Brophy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brophy pushes down on Anstey's head and hops out.
Anstey throws out a loose jab but Brophy uses good head movement to avoid it.

Anstey with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Anstey postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brophy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Anstey, into his guard.

Brophy content to stall in guard here.
Brophy wants to control from the top but Anstey keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Brophy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brophy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
