The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
cunha circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck for Pinto with that takedown attempt.
cunha tries for a takedown but Pinto circles away easily
and Pinto counters with a thumping low kick.

Pinto drives through with a takedown into guard.
cunha wants to sweep but no luck.
cunha is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Pinto slips nicely into half guard.
cunha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pinto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

cunha wants to sweep but no luck.

Pinto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pinto takes a decent strike to the side of the head.
cunha throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Pinto wants to control from the top but cunha keeps moving.
cunha tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pinto is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and cunha counters with a shoot takedown. Pinto fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pinto is looking for a triangle but cunha pushes his legs off easily.

Pinto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
cunha with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
cunha postures up in Pinto's guard and throws a big left but Pinto blocks it.
cunha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
cunha lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Pinto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

cunha throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if cunha can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pinto has worked his way into a potential kimura here. cunha is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Pinto yanks on the arm and cunha is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Pinto.
