The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smudak shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Whitehead is trying to defend but Smudak finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smudak perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Whitehead punching from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whitehead pushes Smudak off looking to stand but Smudak dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smudak is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Smudak missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Whitehead tries to kick Smudak off in order to stand up. Smudak Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smudak has an Americana. Whitehead didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Smudak is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Smudak hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
