PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Glenn Giles (ranked 4633 p4p, 0 weight class) and Krakers Smudak (ranked 3224 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glenn Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Krakers Smudak!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smudak.
Giles is looking for a counter combo.
Giles shoots in but Smudak avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Smudak bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Giles is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Smudak has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Smudak tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smudak tries to move into full mount but can't pass Giles's legs.

Smudak landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Smudak working the ground and pound but Giles is defending the strikes.
Giles is trying to get back to his feet.
Giles is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Smudak goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Giles has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Smudak but great work by Giles.

Giles decides to stand up, so the ref orders Smudak to his feet.
Giles shoots in but Smudak avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Giles fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Glenn Giles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smudak will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Smudak is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Giles's half guard.
Giles tries to kick Smudak off in order to stand up. Smudak Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
You can see the frustration on Giles's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Giles knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smudak on the ground.
Giles gets back to half guard.
Smudak lands strikes from half guard.

Smudak seems to be looking for submissions.

Smudak wants to work for an arm triangle but Giles is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Smudak thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ground and pound from Smudak.

Giles makes his way to full guard, as Smudak worked for a kimura.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Giles is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Smudak's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Smudak slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Smudak has hold of Giles's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Giles seems comfortable defending it but Smudak has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Giles is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Giles is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Smudak couldn't care less - he's delighted!
