PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Abreu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abreu kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I wish - Infected Mushroom. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rafael Abreu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Anthony Head!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abreu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Head looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Head avoids the head kick by Abreu.
Abreu lands a high kick to the side of Head's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Abreu dives into guard, looking to finish.


It looks like Anthony Head has been cut.
Abreu thows a big elbow that misses.
Abreu sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Head's guard.
Abreu trying to pass the guard but Head defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abreu wants to stand up but Head is controlling the position.
Abreu thows a huge punch but Head dodges it nicely.
Abreu is pressing down on Head's thigh, looking to free his foot. Head is holding on for now.
Abreu looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Head with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Abreu wants to stand up but Head has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Head desperately trying to maintain half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Head avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Abreu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Head misses with a few strikes there.
Abreu throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Abreu is looking to clinch but Head is avoiding it.
Abreu tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Head paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Abreu feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Head's calf.

Abreu throws a sloppy head kick and Head moves out of range easily.

Head tries to clinch up but Abreu circles away and keeps his distance.
Abreu tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Head paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Head moves into the clinch.
Abreu is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Head pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Head lands an uppercut.
Abreu is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Head escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Head misses with a few strikes there.

Head darts in and clinches Abreu up against the cage.

Head breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Abreu misses with a head kick.

Head rushes Abreu and presses him up against the cage.
Abreu can't break the clinch.

Abreu is fighting off a takedown attempt but Head is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Abreu to the mat. Abreu regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Head makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Head stands up from Abreu's guard - Head perhaps looking for a knockout.
Abreu avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Abreu connects with a high kick.
Head looks to score with a jab to the body but Abreu is just out of range.
Abreu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Head blocks a head kick by Abreu.

Head clinches up against the cage.
Abreu tries to pull guard but Head won't allow it.

Head breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Head moves into the clinch.
Abreu wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Abreu wants to get back to striking at distance but Head won't allow it.

Head escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Abreu darts in trying to clinch

and Head counters by moving into the clinch.
Abreu tries to break the clinch but Head is controlling the position.

Head manages to break the clinch.
Abreu pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Head blocks a head kick by Abreu.

and Head counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

and Head counters with a nice low kick that buckles Abreu's knee momentarily.
No joy there for Head, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Abreu tries to land a leg kick but Head saw it coming and moves away.
Abreu misses with a body kick.
Head tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Head pushes Abreu up against the cage in a clinch.
Abreu is trying to stall.
A right hand to the body from Head.
Abreu wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Head breaks from the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Abreu moves away from the strike by Head.

Head clinches up with Abreu and pushes him back against the cage.
Abreu wants to get back to striking at distance but Head won't allow it.
Nice elbow from Head.
Abreu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Head avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rafael Abreu will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Head chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Abreu can pounce on him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Head stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Abreu.

Head turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Head manages to end up in side control.

Abreu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Head throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Head counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Head decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Rafael Abreu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Head cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Anthony Head has got the better of the ground game so far.
Abreu is looking to improve his position but Head isn't that keen on the idea.
Abreu wants to get back to his feet.
Head lands a heavy elbow.
Abreu squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Head tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Anthony Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Abreu lands with a kick to the temple. Head shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

and Head counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Head prevents Abreu from improving his position.
Abreu gets back to full guard.
Head must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Head is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Head's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Abreu wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Head manages to pass to side control.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Head wants to break the clinch but can't.
Abreu has had enough of the clinch but Head keeps him there for the moment.
Abreu wants a takedown but no success here.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Head closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Head lands in his opponent's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Head gets the takedown into side control.
Head creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Abreu is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Head asserts his dominance and retains side control.
A lull in the action here as Head stalls from top position.

Head decides to stand back up. Head steps back and let's Abreu get back to his feet.

Head drives through and clinches with Abreu against the cage.

Abreu is fighting off a takedown attempt but Head is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Abreu to the mat. Abreu regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

I think Head has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
