Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Ron Honeybunn and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Robertson moves into range and clinches up with Drake.

Robertson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Drake uses from the top position.
Drake wants to stand but Robertson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Drake landing with the ground and pound.

Robertson is striking off his back. Drake thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Drake tries to stand and escape but Robertson is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Robertson shoots in for a takedown but Drake shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jon Drake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Robertson.

and Drake counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Drake.
Robertson jumps guard but Drake stands there with Robertson around his waist. Robertson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Drake is working for takedown but Robertson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Robertson's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Drake just misses with a elbow thrown towards Robertson's brow.

Robertson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Drake leaves Robertson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Drake. No joy for Robertson on that attempt.
Drake tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Robertson manages to circle out of the way.
Robertson looks winded!
Robertson blocks a head kick by Drake.
Robertson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Drake sprawls well. Drake wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Robertson gets slowly back to his feet.

Robertson clinches up against the cage.

Drake has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Robertson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Drake is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Robertson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Robertson tries to clinch but Drake moves out of range.
Robertson closes the distance and clinches up with Drake, looking for a takedown. Robertson pushes Drake against the cage but Drake circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Drake stuffs the takedown attempt from Robertson. Robertson gets slowly back to his feet.
Drake is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Robertson can do to turn this around?

Robertson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Drake gets his way!
Robertson is trying to get back to his feet but Drake has full control of the position and if anything, Robertson has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Drake stands up and beckons Robertson to join him on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Robertson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Robertson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Drake manages to avoid it.
Drake misses with a hook
and Robertson counters with a nice uppercut.
Robertson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Drake sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Robertson somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Drake dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Robertson throws a leg kick

and Drake counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Robertson!
Robertson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Robertson is looking to improve his position but Drake isn't that keen on the idea.

Drake jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Robertson manages to avoid the submission attempt.
You can see the frustration on Robertson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drake has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Robertson is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Robertson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Drake is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Drake using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Robertson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Robertson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Robertson dives in for a single leg takedown but Drake sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

It looks like Rob Robertson has been cut.

Drake tries a head kick but it misses.

and Drake decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Robertson's guard.
Robertson is wriggling around but Drake manages to pass to half guard.

Jon Drake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drake is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Robertson defends it well.
