PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Ching (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johnny Ching!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bruce Lee!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Lee.
Lee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ching but Ching pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ching has his takedown stuffed

and Lee counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Lee tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Ching breaks from the clinch.
Lee blocks a jab.
Ching darts in trying to clinch

and Lee counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee wants to control but Ching is keeping him busy.

Lee working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ching is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lee asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Ching is looking to get back to his feet here but Lee is keeping cool and he's managed to take Ching's back.
Lee controlling well, preventing Ching from escaping the position.

Lee working for a choke but Ching is defending well.
Lee has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ching's body.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ching trying to control the hands but Lee breaks the grip.
Ching has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Lee is looking to control Ching but Ching is wriggling around and keeping busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ching is trying to stand back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ching is breathing heavily.
Ching tries to escape but Lee has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Lee has good solid back control here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ching turns into Lee and is now in his guard.
Lee wants to stand up but Ching is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lee thumps Ching with a low kick.
Ching pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ching tries to clinch

and Lee decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ching's guard.
Lee sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Lee prevents Ching from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Lee dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Lee.

Lee decides to stand back up. Lee steps back and let's Ching get back to his feet.
Ching tries for a takedown but Lee circles away easily
and Lee counters with a nice leg kick.
Ching throws a lazy head kick

and Lee counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Still in half guard, Lee seems content to control.
Lee trying to control from half guard but Ching is working away.
Lee performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lee throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ching is trying to stand back up but Lee is controlling him
Lee is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Ching looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Lee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ching is refusing to be controlled, as Lee sits in half guard.
Ching flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lee tries to clinch there but Ching circles away.
Ching fails with the takedown

and Lee counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ching's guard now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee is stalling in the full guard.

Ching is looking for a triangle but Lee pushes his legs off easily.
Lee works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Ching is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lee wants to stand up but Ching has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Lee is looking to take a break and control but Ching is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lee content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lee is keen to just control but Ching is a slippery customer.
Lee not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Lee trying to control from half guard but Ching is working away.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ching fails with the takedown
and Lee counters with a big head kick but Ching shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ching's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Lee looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Ching has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ching keeps control of Lee as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Lee gets underhooks to prevent Ching's takedown attempt.
Ching tries to land a knee to the head but Lee blocks with his arms.
Ching is working for takedown but Lee is calmly controlling the position for now.

Lee breaks from the clinch.
Lee looks for a takedown but Ching sprawls well.
Lee tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ching swivels and escapes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee darts in and clinches Ching up against the cage.

Lee ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lee no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lee is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Lee tries to pull guard but Ching won't allow it.
Johnny Ching has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Lee.

Lee tries to score a body lock takedown but Ching shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Ching can't get the takedown.
Ching tries for a takedown but Lee manages to get underhooks.
Ching lands an elbow that stopped Lee in his tracks for a moment.
Ching fails to pull guard.
Ching drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lee gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Lee trying to control the position but instead, Ching has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lee into the cage.
Ching has Lee pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lee manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lee gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ching regains guard.
Ching doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ching is looking to stand up but Lee isn't so interested in that idea.

Lee wants to control from the top but Ching keeps moving.
Ching wants to stand but Lee is controlling the position.
Lee tries to free his leg and advance position but Ching is retaining full guard.
Ching throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Ching will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Ching throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Lee clinches with his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee can't get the takedown.
Ching is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lee gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Lee wants to break free but Ching has control.
Ching has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lee avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ching jumps guard and drags Lee to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ching wants to stand and escape but Lee is having none of it.

Ching is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ching trying to strike off his back.
Ching working a defensive guard but Lee passes into half guard.
Ching wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lee is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ching throws a jab but it's blocked by Lee.

Lee instigates a clinch.
Ching is trying to drag Lee to the mat but Lee just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Lee is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Johnny Ching has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bruce Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nice body punch from Ching - that landed with a thud.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruce Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
