Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Black (ranked 4982 p4p, 401 weight class) and Alex Gutierrez (ranked 3604 p4p, 320 weight class). Black comes to the cage accompanied by Thug for Life. Jon Black has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Gutierrez!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutierrez tries to bum rush Black with a series of wild strikes but Black uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Black feinted with a counter takedown.
Gutierrez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Black.
Gutierrez is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Gutierrez has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Gutierrez digs a good body shot into Black's ribs.
Black shoots for a takedown but Gutierrez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Black drops his hands momentarily and Gutierrez takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Black drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Black stands up and waves to Gutierrez to follow him.
Gutierrez throws a shot from downtown. Black moves away and avoids it.
Black walks into a left hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gutierrez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gutierrez, as that shot connected.

Gutierrez cracks Black with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Black fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Black thows a left - swing and a miss!
Black sets himself, and Gutierrez steps forward looking for the clinch! Black avoids it this time.
Gutierrez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Black half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Gutierrez has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Black looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gutierrez pushes Black off looking to stand but Black dives back in and keeps control.

Black looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Gutierrez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Black to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gutierrez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Black presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Black has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Gutierrez after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gutierrez fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Gutierrez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gutierrez swings for the body but Black moves out of range.
Gutierrez throws a good cross that connects.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Black shoots in for a double leg but Gutierrez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Gutierrez pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Black back to the cage. Gutierrez follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Black closes the distance and clinches up with Gutierrez, looking for a takedown. Black pushes Gutierrez against the cage but Gutierrez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Gutierrez is retaining full guard.
Black slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Black stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gutierrez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Gutierrez misses with a series of wild punches.
Black swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Black walks into a straight right hand from Gutierrez.
Black throws a hook but Gutierrez blocks it.
Gutierrez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The crowd cheers as Gutierrez lands an impressive looking overhand right. Black doesn't seem phased though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gutierrez sizes up Black with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Black will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The fighters circling - Black throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Black counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gutierrez won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Black has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Black decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gutierrez's guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Gutierrez lands with a hook. Black tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Black shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Black showed some decent athleticism there.
Gutierrez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Black is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Black goes for an armbar but Gutierrez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gutierrez.
Black is pulling down on Gutierrez's head. It's preventing any offense from Gutierrez, at least for the moment.

Alex Gutierrez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Black wants to take the fight to the mat but Gutierrez manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Black looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
