PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Glass (ranked 2251 p4p, 269 weight class) and First Name Second Name (ranked 3127 p4p, 349 weight class). Hugh Glass looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hugh Glass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, First Name Second Name!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Glass throws a lazy right hand but Second Name sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Glass throws a sloppy head kick and Second Name moves out of range easily.
Second Name is looking to land body kicks.
Second Name gets cracked there but stands up to it.


It looks like First Name Second Name has been cut.
Glass ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Glass displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Second Name.
Glass tries to work over Second Name's front leg with a kick but Second Name checks it.
Second Name staying out of range there.
Second Name fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Second Name has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Glass finds it's way round the side to connect with Second Name's head.
Hugh Glass is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Glass forces Second Name back against the cage and clinches.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Glass.
Second Name prevents a body shot from Glass.
Glass misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Glass's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Glass throws a lazy body kick

and Second Name counters with a shoot takedown. Glass fights it but they end up in guard.
Glass is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Far-Q Fight Club that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Glass keeping moving, preventing Second Name from controlling successfully.
Glass wants to stand up but Second Name is controlling him.
Second Name trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Glass can't keep his opponent in guard - Second Name advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Second Name thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Second Name has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Second Name not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Second Name is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Glass doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Second Name.
Second Name moves nicely into side control.

Second Name working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Glass knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Second Name on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Glass managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Second Name.

Second Name with the ground and pound but Glass regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Second Name is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Glass is just riding it out for now. Second Name eventually gives up the hold.
Second Name controlling the action here.
Second Name looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Still in half guard, Second Name seems content to control.

Second Name stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Glass to get to his feet.
Second Name is looking to clinch.

Second Name closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Glass to the mat! Glass manages to get full guard.
Second Name throwing strikes but missing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Second Name accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Second Name working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Second Name slips nicely into half guard.
Second Name trying to control from half guard but Glass is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but First Name Second Name will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on First Name Second Name's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Glass throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Second Name defending well as Glass loads up on a big left hand.
Hugh Glass seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A shot to the body from Glass misses

and Second Name counters with a nice double leg into side control. Glass won't be happy with that.

Second Name thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Second Name has knee on belly momentarily but Glass bucks him off and regains half guard.
Second Name looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Glass with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Second Name lands a nice short elbow.
Second Name is trying to control the action in half guard but Glass is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Second Name takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Second Name is looking to advance position but Glass won't allow it.
Second Name passes the guard and advances to mount!
Second Name with good strikes from the mount here!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Glass is desperately trying to improve his position but Second Name has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Second Name sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Second Name punishing his opponent with strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Second Name tries to control but Glass wriggling away.
Second Name has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Second Name controlling the pace for now.
Second Name wants to control but instead Glass manages to regain half guard.

Second Name is working for a submission of some sort.
Glass blocking the ground and pound attempt from Second Name.
Second Name content to control rather than advance.

Second Name is working for a kimura but Glass is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Second Name looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Glass with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Second Name lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
First Name Second Name has got the better of the ground game so far.

Second Name is looking for a kimura but Glass is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Second Name to get the leverage.

Second Name thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Glass's head.

Second Name tries to pass the half guard into mount. Glass knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

First Name Second Name showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Second Name checks a leg kick.
Second Name flicks out a counter leg kick but Glass steps away.
Glass throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Second Name feints the counter takedown.
Glass looks to land a right hand but Second Name moved out of range.
Glass wants to clinch.
Second Name is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Glass has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Second Name.

Second Name closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Glass to the mat! Glass manages to get full guard.

Glass scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Second Name scores with a punch to the head.
Second Name throws a body shot but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Glass lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
A clash of legs there as Glass blocks the low kick.

Second Name closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Glass quickly recovers to half guard.
Second Name content to control rather than advance.
Second Name is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Second Name tries to pass to full mount but Glass defends it.
Glass is refusing to be controlled, as Second Name sits in half guard.
Hugh Glass has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Second Name seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Glass is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
