Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jonathan Maia!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Peterson but Peterson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Peterson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maia's waist but Maia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Peterson off to one side.
Maia flicks out a counter leg kick but Peterson steps away.
Peterson scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Peterson jabs Maia to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Maia fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Peterson avoids it really well and circles away.
Jonathan Maia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maia has a takedown stuffed.
Mike Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Maia.

Maia is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Peterson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Maia fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Peterson to the ground. Maia is now in Peterson's guard.
Maia would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Maia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Peterson is trying to control the position but Maia postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Maia wanted to stand there but Peterson had control of the position.
Maia wants to stand and escape but instead Peterson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Maia tries for a takedown but Peterson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Maia shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Peterson pinned against the cage. Peterson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Peterson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Maia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Maia is trying to drag Peterson to the mat but Peterson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mike Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Maia.

Peterson breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Peterson closes the distance and clinches.

Maia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Peterson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Maia is trying to buck Peterson off.
Peterson lands some shots froms side control.
Maia is not content to let Peterson control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maia wants to get back to his feet but Peterson drags him back down.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Peterson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Mike Peterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Peterson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Peterson is trying to ground and pound but Maia uses the momentary lack of control by Peterson to regain half guard.
Peterson wants to control but Maia is keeping him busy.
Peterson tries to stand but can't do so whilst Maia controls his leg.

Maia is trying to stand up here but Peterson is controlling him well.

Maia shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Peterson pinned against the cage. Peterson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Maia fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Maia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Peterson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Maia tries for a takedown but Peterson manages to get underhooks.
Maia changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Peterson fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Peterson scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Peterson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Mike Peterson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Maia throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Peterson escapes and throws Maia's legs to the side, diving into side control!
