PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lloyd Strife (ranked 4698 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fin Finley (ranked 4757 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Strife might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Warren G - Regulate (Feat. Nate Dogg). Finley has chosen Don't Waste My Time as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fin Finley!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Finley leaves Strife with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Strife closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Finley's guard.
Strife engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Finley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Strife wanted to stand there but Finley had control of the position.
Strife sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Finley's guard.

Strife seems to be working for a kimura but Finley defends the submission attempt.

Strife wants to work for an arm triangle but Finley is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Strife in particular looking to stall.
Strife seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Strife shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Strife fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Finley really wants to buck Strife off and get back to his feet.

Finley covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

Strife throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Finley!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Strife shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Finley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Strife. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Strife lands a nice short elbow.
Strife content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Strife looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Finley is looking to escape.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Strife lands a nice short elbow.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ground and pound from Strife.
Strife is taking a breather. Finley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Finley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Strife landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Strife connects with a nice short shot to Finley's temple.
Finley is trying to stand.
Finley is breathing heavily.
Strife content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Finley is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Strife scores with a couple of nice shots.

Strife stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Finley to get to his feet.

Strife shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Finley's guard.
Finley wants to get back to his feet but Strife passes into half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Strife feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Strife won't allow Finley to get back to his feet.
Finley can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Strife controls the pace.
Strife has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Finley is proving hard to escape from.
Finley wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Strife manages to pass to side control.

Finley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Strife is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Strife is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Finley can do to turn this around?

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Strife scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Strife sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Strife has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Finley pushes Strife off but Strife dives into side control.
Strife controls the position.
Strife creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Finley seems a little lost for a moment, as Strife dominates the positioning.
Lloyd Strife overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Strife decides to stand back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Finley enables Strife to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Finley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Finley wants to get back to his feet but Strife passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.


Strife is working for a submission of some sort.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Strife in particular looking to stall.
Strife's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Strife is nestled in close to Finley, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lloyd Strife showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Strife, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Lloyd Strife misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
