PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Syco Souirrel (ranked 3178 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alberto Moreno (ranked 3712 p4p, 0 weight class). Moreno has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Syco Souirrel has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Syco Souirrel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alberto Moreno!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moreno throws a nice looking combination but Souirrel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Moreno looks winded!

Souirrel clinches with his opponent.
Souirrel drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Moreno gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Souirrel turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Souirrel manages to end up in side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Moreno parries the strikes from Souirrel easily there. Souirrel is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Moreno to escape.
Souirrel controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moreno avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Souirrel.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moreno takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Souirrel has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Moreno!

Souirrel gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Souirrel shoots in but Moreno avoids the takedown attempt easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Souirrel is pulling down on Moreno's head. It's preventing any offense from Moreno, at least for the moment.

Souirrel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Moreno gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Moreno wants to stand and escape but instead Souirrel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Souirrel forces Moreno back against the cage and clinches.

Souirrel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick from Souirrel lands but Moreno takes it in his stride.
Souirrel misses with a double jab.

Souirrel pulls guard successfully.
Souirrel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Souirrel with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

BOOM! Souirrel connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Moreno's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Moreno is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Souirrel has control of Moreno's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Moreno regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Moreno is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Moreno is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Souirrel has taken his back!
Moreno is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Souirrel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Moreno avoids it really well and circles away.
Moreno looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Moreno slaps away a takedown attempt from Souirrel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Moreno moves in looking to clinch but Souirrel pushes him off.

Souirrel lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Souirrel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moreno tries to avoid it but Souirrel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moreno to the ground. Moreno escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Souirrel counters with a left and a right that stings Moreno.
Moreno tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Souirrel moves into range and clinches up with Moreno.

Souirrel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Souirrel throws a body punch but Moreno moves out of range.
Souirrel throws a right and a left that Moreno avoids nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Souirrel goes for a double leg but Moreno avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Moreno continues to drive forward.
