Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brock Gillespie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Steele!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steele blocks a head kick by Gillespie.
Gillespie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Steele sprawls well. Steele wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gillespie gets slowly back to his feet.
Steele unleashes a big counter combination but Gillespie bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Gillespie throws a head kick but Steele moves out of range.
Gillespie misses with a head kick.
Gillespie wants to clinch but Steele slips to the side
and Steele counters with a right hand to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steele avoids the head kick by Gillespie.
Despite the aggression on Steele's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Steele blocks a head kick by Gillespie.
Steele is looking for the big counter here.
Gillespie tries to clinch there but Steele circles away.

Gillespie looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Steele throws a counter combo.
Nice takedown defense from Steele. No joy for Gillespie on that attempt.
A punch combination from Steele misses.
Gillespie throws a quick counter head kick but Steele was just out of range.
Gillespie misses with a head kick.
Gillespie checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
A head kick misses from Gillespie.
Gillespie throws a head kick but Steele moves out of range.
And Steele tries to counter it with a takedown but Gillespie pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Gillespie is looking to land body kicks.
Gillespie pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Steele blocks a head kick by Gillespie.
Steele only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Steele moves out of range of the body kick.
Gillespie throws a sloppy head kick and Steele moves out of range easily.
Steele throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Steele misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gillespie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Steele closes the distance and clinches.

Steele breaks the clinch.

Steele blocks a head kick by Gillespie.
Gillespie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brock Gillespie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gillespie is breathing heavily.
Gillespie pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gillespie throws a sloppy head kick and Steele moves out of range easily.
Gillespie misses with a kick to the body.

Steele shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Steele stands up over Gillespie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steele is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Steele wanted to stand there but Gillespie had control of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steele pushes down on Gillespie's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Steele lands a nice short elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Steele connects with a nice short shot to Gillespie's temple.


Gillespie is rocked!
Steele lands strikes from half guard.
Oh Gillespie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Steele is working for a kimura but Gillespie is defending it quite comfortably.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steele is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Steele postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Gillespie badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Steele around the waist but Steele pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Steele is the winner by TKO! Steele jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Steele!
