PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Machine Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Boyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Machine Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Boyle!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Man changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boyle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Man thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Boyle is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Man off and has taken his back!
The referee is taking a good look at Man as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Boyle!
Boyle is trying to control but Man is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Man is looking to get to half guard.
Man wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Man breaks Boyle's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Man wants to pass the guard but Boyle is keeping the position.

Man drops back, looking for a kneebar! Boyle looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Boyle looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Boyle!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Man tries to clinch but Boyle moves out of range.
Man looks for a takedown but Boyle sprawls well.

Boyle feints and as Man raises his hands in defense, Boyle changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Man tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boyle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Man has an active guard here but Boyle has managed to pass into half guard.
Man wants to sweep but Boyle has passed to side control!
Boyle content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Boyle is looking to take a break and control but Man is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Despite being in the dominant position, Lance Boyle just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Boyle changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Man looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Machine Man is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Man throws a right and a left that Boyle avoids nicely.

so Man counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Boyle wants to get back to his feet but Man is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Boyle looking for a guillotine here but Man defends easily.
Boyle is pulling down on Man's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance Boyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Boyle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Man. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Man tries to advance to mount but can't.
You can see the frustration on Boyle's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Man tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Man has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Man is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Boyle has escaped the position, nice work there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Boyle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Boyle tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.

Man is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Boyle seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Boyle breaks from Man's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Lance Boyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boyle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
