Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Darrick Castaneda (ranked 24664 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Hummer (ranked 4703 p4p, 393 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Castaneda drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hummer has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Castaneda is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hummer.

Castaneda has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Castaneda is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Castaneda seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hummer for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Castaneda looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hummer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Castaneda connects with a nice short shot to Hummer's temple.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Castaneda in particular looking to stall.
Hummer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Castaneda decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Hummer has closed the distance and engaged Castaneda in a clinch.

Hummer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Castaneda is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hummer to the mat. Hummer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
