PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Champ Lesnar (ranked 4795 p4p, 447 weight class) and Vladimir Magosharipov (ranked 4005 p4p, 405 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Magosharipov's choice of entrance music: Jalandhar . Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Champ Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vladimir Magosharipov!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar closes the distance and clinches up with Magosharipov, looking for a takedown. Lesnar pushes Magosharipov against the cage but Magosharipov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Magosharipov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Magosharipov ducks right into an uppercut from Lesnar.

Lesnar tries to sprawl but Magosharipov drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Magosharipov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lesnar is looking for a sweep. Magosharipov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lesnar trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Magosharipov throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Lesnar is looking to improve his position but Magosharipov isn't that keen on the idea.
Lesnar is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lesnar wants to control but Magosharipov is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Magosharipov lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Lesnar really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lesnar wants to escape the position.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Magosharipov's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Lesnar shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Magosharipov defends it nicely.
Lesnar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Magosharipov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lesnar somewhat.
Magosharipov wants to counter the offense by Lesnar and move into the clinch position.

Lesnar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Magosharipov tries to avoid it but Lesnar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Magosharipov to the ground. Magosharipov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Magosharipov is looking to take a break and control but Lesnar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lesnar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Magosharipov's waist but Magosharipov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lesnar off to one side.

Lesnar throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Lesnar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Magosharipov unleashes a big counter combination but Lesnar bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Magosharipov leaves Lesnar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lesnar has a takedown stuffed.
Lesnar misses with a takedown attempt - Magosharipov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
As Lesnar backs off Magosharipov throws a huge counter combo but Lesnar manages to avoid it all.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lesnar.

Vladimir Magosharipov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Magosharipov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
