PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spanky Spangler (ranked 5358 p4p, 401 weight class) and Brendan Schlaub (ranked 5169 p4p, 398 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brendan Schlaub!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schlaub dives in and scores a takedown into Spangler's guard.
Schlaub is stalling in the full guard.
Schlaub advances to half guard.
Schlaub content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Schlaub is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spangler has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Schlaub escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Schlaub!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Schlaub working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Schlaub tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Spangler gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Spangler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schlaub on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Schlaub working for a submission but Spangler is keeping him at bay.

Schlaub jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Spangler manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Spangler is trying to work for a sweep but Schlaub has mounted him!

Schlaub looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Spangler tries to hold on but Schlaub pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schlaub moves to the back.

Schlaub is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Schlaub has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Spangler's body.
Schlaub lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Good control from Schlaub.
It looks like Schlaub might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Schlaub has Spangler flattened out and is raining down punches.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Spangler can't escape the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Schlaub looking for the choke but no joy.

Schlaub is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Spangler is defending well though. Schlaub let's go of the attempt for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brendan Schlaub dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Spangler tries to close the distance and clinch but Schlaub swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Schlaub wants to counter the offense by Spangler and move into the clinch position.
Spangler tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Spangler.

Schlaub feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Spangler is looking to stand back up but Schlaub counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Spangler.

Brendan Schlaub has got the better of the ground game so far.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Schlaub in particular looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schlaub seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Schlaub is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Spangler is bucking up trying to escape but Schlaub cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Schlaub is landing with some decent strikes but Spangler is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Schlaub controlling the position easily from mount.
Schlaub is continuing to stall.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Schlaub! Spangler is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Brendan Schlaub!
