PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Happy Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rousimar Pellegrino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Pellegrino's choice of entrance music: Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Happy Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rousimar Pellegrino!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bear looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Pellegrino trying to control the position.

Pellegrino escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bear gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bear could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bear wants to control from the top but Pellegrino keeps moving.

Pellegrino seems keen to control Bear's posture.
Bear postures up.

Pellegrino keeping full guard, as Bear tries to pass.
Pellegrino keeping moving, preventing Bear from controlling successfully.
Bear wants to get up but he can't break Pellegrino's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pellegrino misses with a takedown

and Bear counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bear is looking to work some ground and pound but Pellegrino has wrist control.
Pellegrino doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bear has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Pellegrino looks gassed!
Bear pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pellegrino is keeping the position for now.
Pellegrino utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bear with a flurry of punches that miss.

Bear trying to control but Pellegrino is working from the bottom.
Bear advances position into side control!
Pellegrino regains half guard.
Bear is thwarting Pellegrino's attempts to control the position.
Bear trying to pass the guard but Pellegrino defending well.
Pellegrino is trying to get back to full guard.
Pellegrino is refusing to be controlled, as Bear sits in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bear lands a nice short elbow.

Bear thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Bear is thwarting Pellegrino's attempts to control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Bear closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bear lands in his opponent's guard.
Bear throwing strikes but missing.
Bear trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bear trying to control but Pellegrino is working from the bottom.
Bear throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Pellegrino tries to strike from the bottom.
Bear preventing the sweep.
Pellegrino keeping full guard, as Bear tries to pass.

Pellegrino has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bear can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pellegrino is trying to control the position but Bear postures up.
Bear trying to control the position from guard on top but Pellegrino is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pellegrino pulls Bear in close to prevent any damage.
Bear stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pellegrino swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Happy Bear dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Bear darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Pellegrino looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Bear wants to control but Pellegrino is keeping him busy.
Pellegrino avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bear.
Bear throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bear trying to mount his opponent but Pellegrino defends it.

Bear is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Pellegrino has managed to free his arm - good work.
Bear wants to stand up but Pellegrino is controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bear sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pellegrino defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bear moves into range and clinches up with Pellegrino.
Pellegrino is trying to drag Bear to the mat but Bear just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Pellegrino tries to pull guard but Bear won't allow it.

Bear pulls guard.
Pellegrino trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Bear escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pellegrino gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bear wants to sweep but no luck.
Bear knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pellegrino on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bear keeping moving, preventing Pellegrino from controlling successfully.
Pellegrino working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bear's head.
Pellegrino connects with a couple of short punches.
Bear throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Bear on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bear tries to get out of the position.

Pellegrino thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Happy Bear has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rousimar Pellegrino.

Pellegrino is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Bear has his hands clasped together but Pellegrino extends an breaks Bear's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Pellegrino.
