Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Monty Rios (ranked 6956 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Gonzalez (ranked 2943 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Monty Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmy Gonzalez!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzalez forces Rios back against the cage and clinches.

Gonzalez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rios is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gonzalez to the mat. Gonzalez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gonzalez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rios preventing the sweep.
Rios wants to stand but Gonzalez is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rios might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gonzalez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rios wanted to stand there but Gonzalez had control of the position.
Rios could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rios is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Rios decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gonzalez, up you get!

Gonzalez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rios did well to prevent Gonzalez getting side control.
Rios is concentrating on defense, preventing Gonzalez from advancing position.

Rios makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rios.

Rios avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rios wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Gonzalez stands up and waves to Rios to follow him.

Rios takes the fight into the clinch.
Gonzalez goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Gonzalez gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Rios wants to control but Gonzalez is keeping busy.
Rios tries to kick Gonzalez off but Gonzalez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Rios tries to get to full guard but Gonzalez has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rios gets full guard.
Rios is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gonzalez is looking to stand up but Rios won't let him.
Rios has Gonzalez pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gonzalez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rios controlling the position well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jimmy Gonzalez will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rios's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Gonzalez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rios to the mat! Rios manages to get full guard.

Rios has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gonzalez is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet but Rios is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gonzalez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rios throwing strikes but missing.
Rios is stalling in the full guard.
Rios throws a big elbow that misses.
Gonzalez is trying to hold Rios in close to prevent damage but Rios has managed to pass into half guard.
Rios content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet.
Gonzalez is looking for a sweep. Rios is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Gonzalez throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Rios manages to pass to side control.
Rios avoids the strikes from the bottom by Gonzalez.

Rios has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rios enables Gonzalez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rios manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gonzalez is breathing heavily.
Gonzalez being controlled here momentarily.
Monty Rios overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gonzalez wants to stand but Rios is controlling his posture from full guard.
Gonzalez won't allow Rios to get back to his feet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rios is on top in guard.

Gonzalez pulls Rios in close to his closed guard and prevents Rios from doing any damage or advancing position.
Rios tries to stand but Gonzalez is controlling from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rios gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rios really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Rios drives through and clinches with Gonzalez against the cage.
Rios scores with a nice hook to the head.
Rios lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Rios lands with a light punch inside.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A bit of stalling here from Rios.
Rios is looking to take this one to the mat.
Gonzalez tries a knee to the head but Rios blocks it.

Gonzalez jumps guard and drags Rios to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monty Rios dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Rios closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rios lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gonzalez doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Rios lands a hook that snaps the head of Gonzalez backwards.
Rios wants to take the fight to the mat but Gonzalez manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rios has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gonzalez regains guard immediately.
Rios is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rios wants to control from the top but Gonzalez keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonzalez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rios is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gonzalez trying to keep a closed guard but Rios is proving a slippery customer.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gonzalez holds on and takes a little breather.

Rios gets to his feet - Gonzalez follows without any prompting.

Rios decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Rios gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Gonzalez looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gonzalez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Gonzalez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rios manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gonzalez has Rios in his guard.

Rios would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Rios content to stall in guard here.

Rios stands and steps away. Gonzalez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gonzalez moves into the clinch.

Gonzalez works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Rios is adopting a defensive guard.
Rios wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rios managing to control the position.
Gonzalez wants to stand and escape but instead Rios has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Gonzalez has his foot on Rios's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rios works his way back into a safe position though.
Rios is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gonzalez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Monty Rios showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Rios has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
