Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Samuel Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fernando Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Boom listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Boom tries to sprawl but Mendes drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Mendes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Mendes seems to be working for a kimura but Boom defends the submission attempt.
Boom slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Mendes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Mendes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Boom looking for a sweep. Not yet Boom, not yet.

Mendes drops back looking for a leg! Boom is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boom manages to kick Mendes off! Mendes jumps back into Boom's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boom escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mendes sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Boom's guard.

Mendes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boom is just riding it out for now. Mendes eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boom is controlling Mendes's trapped leg to prevent Mendes from advancing to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boom wants to control but Mendes is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Mendes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Boom missing with punches from the bottom.

Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mendes is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Boom!

Mendes is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Boom is surviving well by controlling Mendes's body position as best he can.

Boom bucks up and throws Mendes to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boom pinned against the cage. Boom gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mendes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes dives in and grabs Boom's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boom pushes down on Mendes's head and hops out.
Boom looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Boom feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Mendess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Boom jabs at Mendes's body.
Boom lands with a nice body punch.
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Samuel Boom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fernando Mendes.
Boom slaps away a takedown attempt from Mendes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mendes looks winded!
Mendes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mendes fails with the takedown
and Boom counters with a nice uppercut.
Boom scores with a jab to the head.

Boom feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Mendes sprawling to the canvas! Mendes rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Boom finish him?!


Mendes is rocked!


It looks like Fernando Mendes has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Boom counters with a right hand from hell and Mendes is out cold! A vicious knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Samuel Boom!
