Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cornelius Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ortiz looking to score a takedown here. Rios is defending well but Ortiz drives through and ends up in Rios's guard.
Ortiz is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rios could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ortiz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rios to the ground. Ortiz is now in Rios's guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ortiz connects with a nice short shot to Rios's temple.

Rios tries to get to full guard but Ortiz has control of the leg.

Ortiz slows the pace down in half guard.
Rios keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ortiz thows a huge punch but Rios dodges it nicely.

Ortiz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ortiz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rios's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rios throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rios regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ortiz.
Ortiz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Randy Ortiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Ortiz has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rios is trying to keep an underhook but Ortiz manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Ortiz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rios with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ortiz is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Rios is hurt! He's hurt bad - Ortiz fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Rios from any more punishment! Congratulations to Ortiz! Great finish!
