PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lamar Atacko (ranked 5450 p4p, 407 weight class) and Royce Peyton (ranked 6709 p4p, 446 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Royce Peyton was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royce Peyton!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peyton shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Atacko as he avoids it easily.
Atacko has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Atacko clinches up with Peyton and pushes him back against the cage.
Atacko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Atacko is stalling here.

Peyton jumps into guard, dragging Atacko to the mat.
Peyton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've been hearing good reports from Atacko's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Atacko tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peyton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Atacko somewhat.
Peyton fails with an attempt to clinch.

Atacko drives through and clinches with Peyton against the cage.
Peyton is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Atacko keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Peyton's efforts to push away.
Peyton tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Atacko just stands there and leans against the cage.

Atacko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Peyton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Atacko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Peyton is looking for a sweep. Atacko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Atacko winds up and cracks Peyton with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

That was a close round but I would say that Lamar Atacko will probably get the nod.
That's time! Atacko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Peyton dives in and grabs Atacko's left leg, looking for a takedown. Atacko pushes down on Peyton's head and hops out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Peyton reaches up to try and control the position but Atacko seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Peyton rolls and tries to escape and now Atacko has his back!

Atacko closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Atacko has managed to clinch.
Atacko wants a takedown but no success here.
Peyton has Atacko pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Atacko manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Atacko jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Peyton walks away with a smile on his face. Atacko gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Atacko tries to close the distance and clinch but Peyton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Atacko is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Peyton asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Atacko wants to control but Peyton postures up.

Peyton tries for a kimura but Atacko is defending well.
Peyton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Atacko keeps working.
Peyton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Peyton stands up and beckons Atacko to his feet.
Peyton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Atacko circles away quickly and effectively.
Peyton wants to clinch.
Atacko seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Atacko misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lamar Atacko. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Peyton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
