Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carmelo Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carmelo Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith connects with a single shot there.
Sanchez lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Ryan Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez throws a hook to the side of Smith's head but Smith sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sanchez scores with a body shot.
A jab from Sanchez misses.
Smith fails to land the takedown.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Sanchez.
Smith chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Sanchez can pounce on him.
Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith.

Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanchez.
Smith lands with a right hand.
Smith works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Sanchez looks to throw the jab but Smith is out of range.
Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Smith cracks Sanchez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Sanchez throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Smith throws a head kick but Sanchez moves out of range.
Smith shoots in but Sanchez avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Sanchez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Sanchez.
Smith misses with a hook. Sanchez ducked under it nicely.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith takes a swing at Sanchez's ribcage but misses.
Smith tries to clinch there but Sanchez circles away.
An inside leg kick lands from Sanchez.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith lands with an uppercut that bounces Sanchez off the cage and back into rage.
Sanchez with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Sanchez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith tries for a takedown but Sanchez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith throws a hook to the side of Sanchez's head but Sanchez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Smith jabbing away but nothing is landing.
No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt.
Sanchez slips a jab from Smith.

Smith throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Sanchez counters with a good, hard body kick but Smith shrugs it off.
Sanchez misses with a head kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Sanchez misses the target.
A big left from Sanchez misses.
Sanchez throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Smith has his takedown stuffed
and Sanchez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Smith on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Smith turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carmelo Sanchez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sanchez misses with a looping left.
Smith misses with a body punch
and Sanchez counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Sanchez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Sanchez lands a nice looking body shot.
Sanchez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Sanchez keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sanchez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Ryan Smith has been cut.
Sanchez fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Smith.

Sanchez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt
and Sanchez counters with a stiff right hand.
Sanchez is looking to slow Smith down with leg kicks.
Smith throws a leg kick
and Sanchez counters with a right hand to the body.
Sanchez lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Sanchez looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely.
Sanchez works Smith's body with a nice hook.
Smith tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sanchez counters with a nice uppercut.

Sanchez thumps Smith with a low kick.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sanchez counters with an inside leg kick.

Sanchez plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Carmelo Sanchez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sanchez connects with a solid leg kick.
A jab from Sanchez does it's job there.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt
and Sanchez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Smith is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Sanchez throws out a powerful jab.


Ryan Smith's cut is getting worse.
Sanchez connects with a looping right hand.
Sanchez lands a with a good body shot.
Smith misses with a double jab
letting Sanchez counter with a right hand.

Sanchez lands a high kick to the side of Smith's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Sanchez dives into guard, looking to finish.


Smith is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sanchez postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.

Sanchez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Smith throws a shot from downtown. Sanchez moves away and avoids it.
Smith takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Smith. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Sanchez lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


Ryan Smith's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Sanchez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Sanchez lands with a kick to the temple. Smith shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Sanchez throws a quick inside leg kick.
Smith is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Sanchez misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smith wants to clinch but Sanchez slips to the side

and Sanchez counters with a flying knee that drops Smith!
Oh Smith is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!


Jeez, Ryan Smith's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

Sanchez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carmelo Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Ryan Smith's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Smith seems to have got his legs back now.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Sanchez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smith takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Smith fails with the takedown
and Sanchez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sanchez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Smith takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sanchez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sanchez throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Smith has his takedown stuffed
and Sanchez counters with a stiff right hand.
Smith swings away with a body shot that misses
and Sanchez counters with a low kick, right behind Smith 's knee.
Sanchez lands a nice looking body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Sanchez.
Smith walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Smith slips under a jab.

The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sanchez lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ryan Smith's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Carmelo Sanchez! Carmelo Sanchez retains his welterweight title!
