PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mario Rossi (ranked 984 p4p, 143 weight class) and Conor OMalley (ranked 878 p4p, 123 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Conor OMalley was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mario Rossi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor OMalley!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OMalley slips a straight right by Rossi.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from OMalley is defended easily by Rossi.
Rossi throws a head kick but OMalley moves out of range.
We've been informed that OMalley has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
OMalley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rossi tries to avoid it but OMalley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rossi to the ground. Rossi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rossi lands a lovely overhand right.
OMalley checks a low kick from Rossi.
OMalley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rossi swivels and escapes.
Mario Rossi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor OMalley.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rossi thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rossi lands a leg kick that knocks OMalley off balance momentarily.

OMalley misses with a takedown attempt - Rossi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rossi cracks OMalley with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
OMalley dives in for a single leg takedown but Rossi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
OMalley's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rossi connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! OMalley scrambles back to his feet.
OMalley slips a jab from Rossi.
OMalley takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
OMalley shoots in but Rossi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
OMalley shoots and misses
and Rossi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
OMalley takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
OMalley has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rossi finds it's way round the side to connect with OMalley's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rossi connects with a nice looking jab.


OMalley is rocked!
OMalley shoots for a double leg takedown but Rossi sprawls well. He's pushed OMalley's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
OMalley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rossi swivels and escapes.
Mario Rossi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rossi throws a looping overhand right but OMalley ducks down to avoid it.
Mario Rossi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
OMalley blocks a jab.
OMalley shoots in but Rossi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by OMalley or perhaps it was just good defense by Rossi, which made it look bad.
No luck for OMalley with that takedown attempt.
Rossi misses the shot to the body.
We've been told by Rossi's head coaches at Total Impact MMA/KT that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

OMalley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rossi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
OMalley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rossi tries to avoid it but OMalley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rossi to the ground. Rossi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rossi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Rossi scores with a jab to the jaw.
OMalley doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rossi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rossi loads up on a big right hand but OMalley slips the punch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rossi enables OMalley to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rossi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rossi pushes OMalley off and scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
OMalley shoots for a takedown but Rossi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
OMalley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rossi's waist but Rossi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing OMalley off to one side.
As OMalley looks to move away, Rossi throws a big counter combo but OMalley just gets out of the way.
Rossi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
OMalley defending well as Rossi loads up on a big left hand.
OMalley dives in for a single leg takedown but Rossi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

OMalley slips under a jab.
Rossi throws a lazy right hand but OMalley sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
OMalley tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
OMalley has his takedown stuffed
and Rossi counters with a nice uppercut.
No luck for OMalley with that takedown attempt.
OMalley fails to land the takedown.
An attempted straight right counter from Rossi misses the target.
Rossi's jab looks to have found its range, popping OMalley under the eye.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mario Rossi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


OMalley avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
OMalley shoots in and drives through. Rossi sprawls well.
OMalley on the wrong end of a nice jab.

OMalley looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Rossi has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes OMalley off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Conor OMalley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rossi lands with a thumping leg kick.
OMalley takes one to the chin there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
OMalley shoots and misses
and Rossi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rossi cracks OMalley with a good jab.
OMalley is still on wobbly legs! Can Rossi finish him?
OMalley walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rossi throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rossi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Rossi gets caught napping as OMalley dives in and scores a takedown. Rossi manages to retain guard.

Rossi has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. OMalley has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
OMalley seems to have recovered his senses.
Rossi lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Rossi works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Rossi is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Mario Rossi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor OMalley.
OMalley is breathing heavily.
OMalley tries for a takedown. No joy.
Rossi lands a nice shot to the body.
Rossi throws a blind hook that connects with the side of OMalleys head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rossi lands with a light punch inside.

Rossi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mario Rossi is winning the standup battle so far.
Rossi looks to land a right hand but OMalley moved out of range.
OMalley wants to counter with a clinch but Rossi pushes him away.
Rossi looks to throw the jab but OMalley is out of range.
Rossi digs a good body shot into OMalley's ribs.
Rossi moves into range and connects with a jab.

Rossi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Rossi lands with a nice body punch.
OMalley ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
OMalley is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Rossi throws a looping overhand right but OMalley ducks down to avoid it.

Rossi catches OMalley with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
No luck with that takedown attempt from OMalley.
OMalley has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
OMalley takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Rossi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rossi wants it to stay on the feet.
A little feinted left hand from Rossi on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rossi connects with a single shot there.

Nice body punch from Rossi.
Rossi throws a big shot that misses.
Rossi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
OMalley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rossi as he avoids it easily.
Rossi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rossi takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Rossi misses with an uppercut.
Rossi cracks OMalley with a good jab.
OMalley avoids the head kick by Rossi.
Rossi missing with a left hand there. OMalley was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
OMalley has his takedown stuffed
and Rossi counters with a straight that turns OMalley's legs to rubber! Rossi pushes forward with more strikes and OMalley goes down, battered and bloody! That's a wrap folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mario Rossi!
A very excited looking Mario Rossi rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
