PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Carrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Carrey's choice of entrance music: When the man comes around - Johnny Cash. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Carrey!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carrey is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Johnson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carrey.
Johnson clinches but Carrey breaks the clinch
and Carrey counters with a low kick, right behind Johnson 's knee.
Carrey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Carrey closes the distance but Johnson moves to the side
and Johnson counters with a straight right hand.
Carrey avoids a kick to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by Johnson as he connects with a hook.

Carrey shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Carrey showed some decent athleticism there.
Carrey landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Carrey stands up out of the half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carrey closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like James Johnson has been cut.
Carrey shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Carrey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carrey looks gassed!

Carrey has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.

Carrey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Johnson stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Johnson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Carrey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Carrey tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Johnson forces Carrey back against the cage and clinches.
Carrey looking for a takedown.
James Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Carrey.
Carrey tries to pull guard but Johnson won't allow it.
Johnson is trying to break free.
Carrey tries to stall but Johnson uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Johnson has had enough of the clinch but Carrey keeps him there for the moment.
Carrey throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Johnson blocks it with crossed arms.
Johnson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Carrey goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
Johnson tries to break the clinch but Carrey is controlling the position.
Carrey fails to pull guard.
Carrey gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Johnson.
Carrey throws a knee to the head but misses.

Johnson breaks from the clinch.
Johnson stuffs the takedown.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Carrey is avoiding it.
A slow jab from Johnson misses its intended target.

Carrey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Carrey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Johnson prevents Carrey from improving position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson is trying to buck Carrey off.
Johnson struggling a bit here.

Carrey is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Johnson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Carrey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carrey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Johnson bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carrey looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Carrey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carrey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Johnson bucks up and throws Carrey to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Carrey gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Johnson won't allow Carrey to sweep him here.

Carrey looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Johnson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Carrey feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Carrey is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Johnson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Carrey's back instead.
Carrey is in bad spot here.

Johnson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Carrey is defending well though. Johnson let's go of the attempt for now.
Carrey tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Johnson is thwarting Carrey's attempts to control the position.
Carrey slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Carrey has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Johnson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carrey.
Carrey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Johnson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Johnson decides to stand back up.
Carrey is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Carrey.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carrey's guard.

Carrey is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Carrey working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Johnson has passed into half guard!

Johnson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Carrey throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Carrey tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Johnson stands up from half guard.
Johnson keeps the fight on the outside.
Johnson misses with a kick to the body.
Carrey tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily

and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Johnson.
James Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Carrey.

Carrey ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carrey no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carrey looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Carrey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Carrey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Carrey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson works the jab nicely.
Johnson tries to clinch up.
Johnson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Johnson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carrey, pushing him back against the cage.
Carrey jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Carrey gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
James Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Carrey.
Johnson cracks Carrey with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Johnson gets the takedown into side control.
James Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Johnson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Carrey keeps the fight on the outside.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carrey looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.
Carrey keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Johnson.

Carrey darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Carrey wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Johnson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Johnson is trying to stand back up but Carrey is controlling him
Johnson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Johnson.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Johnson controls Carrey momentarily but Carrey frees himself.
Johnson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Carrey has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Johnson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Carrey is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Johnson pulls down on the head and he's put Carrey to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Johnson!
