PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Goji Kano (ranked 5356 p4p, 401 weight class) and Gross Erock (ranked 2227 p4p, 226 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Goji Kano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gross Erock!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kano gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Erock counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kano is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Erock shoots in and bounces Kano off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Erock postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Erock throws a strike aimed at the side of Kano's head but Kano avoids it well.

The ground and pound from Erock seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kano tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Erock wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Erock remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Erock is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Kano off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Erock is having to fend off submission attempts from Kano, who is looking to sink in the choke. Kano doesn't have the hooks in though and Erock manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Erock seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kano had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Erock defends it easily.

Erock really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kano is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Erock pulls his head out easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Erock is pressing down on Kano's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kano is holding on for now.
Erock seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

and Erock counters with a huge head kick that drops Kano! The ref dives in to stop the fight and the crowd goes wild!

A relieved looking Gross Erock thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
