PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Peterson (ranked 3637 p4p, 417 weight class) and Yancy Camacho (ranked 5852 p4p, 542 weight class). Peterson comes to the cage accompanied by Amon Amarth - Guardians of Asgaard. Yancy Camacho is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gregory Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yancy Camacho!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Camacho throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Camacho is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Peterson's half guard.
Peterson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Camacho takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Camacho is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Peterson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Camacho.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Peterson throws a big counter combination but Camacho scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Peterson tries for a takedown but Camacho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Peterson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Camacho scores with a couple of nice shots.
Camacho looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Camacho is looking for a kimura but Peterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Camacho to get the leverage.

Camacho is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Peterson is looking for a sweep. Camacho is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Peterson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Peterson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Camacho shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Peterson's guard.

Peterson has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Camacho is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Camacho has picked Peterson up - he's going for a ride! Camacho dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Camacho can do anything to dispel that myth.

Peterson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Camacho swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Peterson is fighting to break Camacho's control of his arms but Camacho is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Camacho is on top in guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, if Camacho is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Peterson wants to get back to his feet.
Camacho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Camacho keeps the fight on the outside.
Horrible takedown attempt by Camacho or perhaps it was just good defense by Peterson, which made it look bad.
Camacho shoots in looking for a takedown but Peterson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Camacho's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
As Camacho tries to get set, Peterson tries to push him back and clinch up but Camacho manages to avoid the attempt.
Camacho misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gregory Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yancy Camacho.
Camacho takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Peterson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Camacho wants to counter with a clinch but Peterson pushes him away.

Peterson shoots in and bounces Camacho off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Peterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peterson throws a series of punches but Camacho moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gregory Peterson.
I think Peterson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
