Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alessio Da Santiago (ranked 24319 p4p, 290 weight class) and Darrion Vaughn (ranked 6539 p4p, 258 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darrion Vaughn!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Da Santiago or perhaps it was just good defense by Vaughn, which made it look bad.
Da Santiago takes one on the button.
Da Santiago looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A jab lands there for Vaughn.
Vaughn misses with a series of wild punches.
Vaughn goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Da Santiago walks into a straight right hand from Vaughn.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Da Santiago takes a little break here. Vaughn wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Vaughn is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Da Santiago asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Da Santiago seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Vaughn's chin but Vaughn turns very nicely into Da Santiago's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Vaughn.

Da Santiago has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vaughn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vaughn stands and steps away. Da Santiago gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Vaughn's coach down at So Cal Fight Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Vaughn's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Da Santiago keeps control of Vaughn as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Da Santiago lands an elbow that stopped Vaughn in his tracks for a moment.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Da Santiago takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Vaughn tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Vaughn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No luck for Da Santiago with that takedown attempt.

Da Santiago has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Da Santiago is trying to control the position but Vaughn postures up.
Da Santiago wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Da Santiago accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Da Santiago goes for a double leg but Vaughn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Vaughn continues to drive forward.

Vaughn wants to stand and escape but Da Santiago is having none of it.

Vaughn connects with a good right hand that stumbles Da Santiago. Da Santiago circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Vaughn misses with a few strikes there.
Vaughn misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Alessio Da Santiago is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vaughn lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Darrion Vaughn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Da Santiago looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vaughn is fending him off so far but Da Santiago persists. Nope, Vaughn circles away and we're back to standing.

Vaughn tries to bum rush Da Santiago with a series of wild strikes but Da Santiago uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Da Santiago shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vaughn sprawls well. Vaughn wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Da Santiago gets slowly back to his feet.
Vaughn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Vaughn has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Da Santiago is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Vaughn fails to land with a series of punches.
Vaughn tests Da Santiago's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Vaughn throws a left and a right that both miss

and Da Santiago counters with a nice double leg into side control. Vaughn won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darrion Vaughn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Vaughn swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Da Santiago.
Vaughn closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Vaughn drops Da Santiago with a huge uppercut! Da Santiago drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Vaughn is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darrion Vaughn!

In his post fight interview, Darrion Vaughn gave a big smile as he said 'He had no right fighting for a title, none!!! I proved that tonight. He's tight with the owner of the company and got handed a shot at the belt. Tonight I ended this mans career. Four straight losses son bye bye. It's my time!!!'.
