Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Valentin Hadjiev (ranked 7325 p4p, 543 weight class) and Quinoa Smiff (ranked 17470 p4p, 564 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; Valentin Hadjiev! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 5 losses; Quinoa Smiff!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.

Smiff shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hadjiev counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Smiff!

Hadjiev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smiff is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hadjiev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hadjiev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hadjiev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smiff, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hadjiev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smiff has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hadjiev goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smiff rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hadjiev's guard! Nice work there by Smiff!

Hadjiev wants to sweep but no luck.
Smiff is pushing down on Hadjiev's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hadjiev is fighting to maintain full guard but Smiff has managed to sneak the leg through.
Smiff works his way into side control.

Smiff thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hadjiev tries to bench press Smiff off him but Smiff keeps the position.

Smiff goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hadjiev has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Smiff but great work by Hadjiev.

Hadjiev swings around for an armbar but Smiff sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hadjiev's guard.

Smiff is pushing down on Hadjiev's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hadjiev is fighting to maintain full guard but Smiff has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hadjiev gets back to full guard.
My spies in Kaptajnernes Træningscenter inform me that Smiff has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Smiff passes Hadjiev's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Smiff is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Hadjiev reverses the position - he's now on top in Smiff's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hadjiev is looking to pass into half guard but Smiff pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Smiff is in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smiff stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hadjiev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hadjiev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hadjiev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smiff doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smiff manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smiff works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smiff tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hadjiev knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hadjiev regains full guard. Nicely done.
Smiff trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Smiff is still trying to improve position.

Hadjiev is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Smiff has his hands clasped together but Hadjiev extends and breaks Smiff's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hadjiev.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Valentin Hadjiev!
Valentin Hadjiev decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
