The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bessant connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gomez. Gomez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

It looks like Pedro Gomez has been cut.
Gomez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gomez dives in and grabs Bessant's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bessant pushes down on Gomez's head and hops out.
Gomez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Bessant has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Island Sparring in the buildup to the fight.
Gomez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bessant manages to avoid it.
Bessant looks to land a combination. Gomez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Bessant scores with a decent looking hook.
Bessant smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Gomez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Bessant bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gomez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bessant sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gomez somewhat.
Bessant swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
John Bessant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pedro Gomez.

Bessant paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Gomez tries for a takedown but Bessant sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bessant lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Gomez shoots for a double leg takedown but Bessant sprawls well. He's pushed Gomez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nice uppercut lands for Bessant. That snapped Gomez's head back.
Bessant misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Bessant counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gomez thinking.

Bessant is pawing at Gomez, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Gomez's nose. Gomez is badly hurt! Bessant pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Gomez tries desperately to hold on but Bessant is relentless in his assault! As Gomez receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Bessant away and this one is in the books!
