Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Codling (ranked 4650 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Thompson (ranked 4788 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, William Thompson!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Codling drives through with a takedown into guard.
Thompson controlling the position.
Codling throws a big elbow that misses.
Codling wants to pass the guard but Thompson is keeping the position.
Thompson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Codling.

Thompson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Thompson trying to keep a closed guard but Codling is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thompson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Codling controls the pace.

It looks like Codling is going to stand back up.
Codling wants to pass the guard but Thompson is defending well.

Codling shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Codling has closed the distance and engaged Thompson in a clinch.

Codling tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Thompson smiles and moves away.
Thompson throws a right hand that Codling ducks under and follows up with a left that Codling also avoids with ease.
Thompson closes the distance and clinches up with Codling, looking for a takedown. Thompson pushes Codling against the cage but Codling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Codling shoots in looking for a takedown. Thompson tries to sprawl out of it but Codling keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thompson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Thompson darts in looking for a takedown but Codling gets double underhooks and turns Thompson into the cage.

Codling decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

and Thompson counters with a one-two to the body.

Thompson closes the distance looking to clinch
and Codling cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Codling rushes Thompson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Codling goes for a takedown attempt but Thompson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Thompson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
As Thompson looks to move away, Codling throws a big counter combo but Thompson just gets out of the way.
Thompson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Thompson duly obliges.


It looks like Aaron Codling has been cut.
Codling takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Codling fails with the takedown.

Horrible takedown attempt by Thompson or perhaps it was just good defense by Codling, which made it look bad.

Codling has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Thompson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Thompson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Codling has clasped his hands together around Thompson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Thompson wants to control but Codling postures up.
Codling tries to advance to mount but can't.
Thompson tries to improve position but can't.

Codling decides to stand up, so the ref orders Thompson to his feet.

Codling throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Thompson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Codling is in Thompson's guard.

Codling not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Codling gets to his feet. Thompson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Thompson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Codling defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Thompson is looking to stand back up but Codling counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Thompson.
