The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

lyons closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Silva to the mat! Silva manages to get full guard.
lyons works a leg free and moves into half guard.
lyons is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Silva misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

lyons turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and lyons manages to end up in side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Silva lands with a thumping leg kick.

lyons postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.
Silva regains half guard.
Silva wants to control but lyons is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Silva moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
