PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Burrhus Frederic Skinner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin has chosen Song of Ice and Fire Art Collection as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Burrhus Frederic Skinner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Martin!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martin gets a takedown into half guard.
Martin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Skinner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Martin on the ground.
Martin trying to control from half guard but Skinner is working away.
Martin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Martin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Skinner knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Martin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Martin prevents Skinner from improving his position.
Skinner is trying to stand up here but Martin is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin trying to control the action but Skinner is working from the bottom.
Martin winds up and cracks Skinner with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Skinner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Martin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Skinner with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Martin lands a nice short elbow.

Skinner is looking to escape.
Martin not doing much here.
Martin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Martin content just to control the position here.

Skinner bucks up and throws Martin to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Martin blocks a head kick by Skinner.
Martin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Skinner wants to clinch up but Martin keeps it at a distance.
Martin swats away the attempt to clinch by Skinner.
Skinner tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Martin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Martin lands a lovely overhand right.
Martin scores with a hook to the body. Skinner takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Martin looks for a takedown but Skinner sprawls well.

Skinner instigates a clinch.
Martin tries to break the clinch but Skinner is controlling the position.
Skinner tries to land a knee to the head but Martin blocks with his arms.
Skinner throws a knee to the head but misses.
Skinner is breathing heavily.
Martin scores with a shoulder strike.
Skinner with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Martin breaks from the clinch.
Martin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Skinner gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Martin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Martin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Martin advances to half guard.
Skinner misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Martin moves into full mount! Skinner won't be happy about that!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin is landing with some decent strikes but Skinner is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Martin wants to take his opponent's back but Skinner doesn't allow it.
Martin cracks Skinner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Martin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Skinner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Skinner is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Skinner regains half guard.

Skinner is in trouble now - Martin has advanced to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Skinner can't escape the position.
Skinner is squirming around, avoiding Martin's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Martin landing strikes from the mount and Skinner is in trouble!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Martin dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Martin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Skinner's waist but Skinner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Martin off to one side.
Martin shoots in and drives through. Skinner sprawls well.
Skinner tries to clinch up but Martin circles away and keeps his distance.
Martin keeps the fight on the outside.
Skinner misses with a hook to the body
and Martin counters with a one-two to the body.
Martin lands a nice shot that snaps Skinner's head back.
Nice uppercut lands for Martin. That snapped Skinner's head back.
Martin fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Burrhus Frederic Skinner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Martin.
Skinner misses with a head kick.
Martin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Martin keeps the fight on the outside.

Skinner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Martin, pushing him back against the cage.
Skinner misses with a hook from the clinch.
Martin goes for a takedown attempt but Skinner pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Martin counters with a single leg into guard. Skinner didn't expect that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Skinner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Skinner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Martin stops Skinner from standing up.
Martin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Skinner tries to strike from the bottom.
Martin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Martin swats away the attempt to clinch by Skinner.
Skinner keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Burrhus Frederic Skinner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The strikes coming from Martin are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Skinner is looking for a sweep.
Martin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Skinner down.

Skinner is not content to let Martin control the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

George Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Martin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Skinner looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Burrhus Frederic Skinner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Skinner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Martin cracks Skinner with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Skinner is rocked!
Martin sizes up Skinner with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Oh Skinner is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Martin closes the distance and lands a one-two.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Martin circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Skinner to the canvas! Skinner doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Martin keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). George Martin!
