PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Weatherby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Razor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Tyson Weatherby has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tyson Weatherby seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyson Weatherby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis Razor!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Razor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Razor throws a right hand that Weatherby ducks under and follows up with a left that Weatherby also avoids with ease.
Razor looks to land a combination but Weatherby avoids it well.
Nice takedown defense from Razor. No joy for Weatherby on that attempt.
Weatherby fails with a takedown attempt.

Weatherby closes the distance and clinches.
Razor tries to break the clinch but Weatherby is controlling the position.
Razor is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Razor wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Weatherby prevents Razor from breaking the clinch.

Weatherby gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Razor keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Razor avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Weatherby.
Weatherby works his foot free and advances to mount.
Razor's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Weatherby tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Weatherby throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Razor because Weatherby loaded up on that one.
Weatherby tries to control but Razor wriggling away.
Weatherby is really struggling to control Razor but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Weatherby punishing his opponent with strikes.

Weatherby swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Razor is now in Weatherby's guard. A big mistake from Weatherby there, giving up the dominant position!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Razor looks gassed!
Weatherby bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Razor's guard.
Razor wants to stand and escape but Weatherby is having none of it.
Weatherby wants to control from the top but Razor keeps moving.
Weatherby is pushing down on Razor's leg trying to pass to half guard. Razor is fighting to maintain full guard but Weatherby has managed to sneak the leg through.
Weatherby is keen to just control but Razor is a slippery customer.

Weatherby is nestled in close to Razor, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Weatherby works his way into side control.

Weatherby wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Razor, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weatherby wants to control but Razor is keeping him busy.
Razor defending against the ground and pound.

Weatherby looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Weatherby decides to stand back up. Weatherby steps back and let's Razor get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Razor wants to get back to striking at distance but Weatherby won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Weatherby breaks from the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Weatherby throws an elbow but Razor slips to the side and avoids it well.
Weatherby is looking to take a break and control but Razor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Razor is looking to get back to his feet here but Weatherby is keeping cool and he's managed to take Razor's back.

Razor is breathing heavily.

Weatherby wants to control but Razor is keeping busy.
Weatherby is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Razor up.
Weatherby has good solid back control here.
Weatherby throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Razor!
Weatherby slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Razor has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Weatherby cracks Razor with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Razor from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Weatherby drives through and clinches with Razor against the cage.
Razor wants to break the clinch but can't.

Weatherby pulls Razor into guard.
Weatherby looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Weatherby has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Razor off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Weatherby shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Weatherby showed some decent athleticism there.

Razor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Razor is staying active underneath Weatherby, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Weatherby is taking a breather. Razor says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tyson Weatherby overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Razor is refusing to be controlled, as Weatherby sits in half guard.

Weatherby escapes and gets back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Weatherby closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Weatherby is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Razor doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Weatherby.

Weatherby postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Razor to stand up.
Lewis Razor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Weatherby looks for a takedown but Razor sprawls well.

Razor looks to land a combination but Weatherby avoids it well.
Weatherby lands with a kick to the temple. Razor shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Razor keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Weatherby closes this distance looking for a takedown but Razor circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyson Weatherby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Razor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Weatherby changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Razor tries to avoid it but Weatherby manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Razor to the ground. Razor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Weatherby, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
