PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dale Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Kordel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dale Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julius Kordel!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kordel's corner calls for a 1-2. Kordel obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Brown changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kordel tries to avoid it but Brown manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kordel to the ground. Kordel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kordel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Brown shoots in but Kordel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dale Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown throws a series of punches but Kordel avoids them all with ease.

Brown gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Kordel has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Brown regains guard immediately.

Brown is working an open guard so Kordel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kordel shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brown as he avoids it easily.
Brown fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kordel walks into a stiff left hand from Brown.
Brown has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kordel swats away the attempt to clinch by Brown.
Brown has his takedown stuffed

so Kordel counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Brown is working an open guard so Kordel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kordel throws a right and a left that both miss.
Brown darts in trying to clinch

and Kordel moves into the clinch.

Kordel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kordel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brown, pushing him back against the cage.

Kordel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kordel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Brown tries to improve position but can't.

Kordel stands up.

Kordel gets a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown tries for a takedown. No joy.
A short body shot lands from Kordel as the two fighters clinch.
Kordel lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Brown backwards.

Kordel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kordel clinches up with Brown and pushes him back against the cage.

Kordel breaks the clinch.
Brown throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kordel.
Brown throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kordel counters with a low kick, right behind Brown 's knee.
Kordel fails to land the takedown.
Brown tries to close the distance and clinch but Kordel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kordel misses with a combination
and Brown counters with a straight right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kordel has closed the distance and engaged Brown in a clinch.
Brown is working for takedown but Kordel is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kordel looking to slow down the pace here.

Brown has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kordel uses from the top position.

Brown is looking for a triangle here but Kordel uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Kordel decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Brown throws a right and a left that Kordel avoids nicely.

Brown moves into range and clinches up with Kordel.

Kordel gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Brown tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Kordel counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Kordel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brown is trying to control but can't.
Brown pushes Kordel off looking to stand but Kordel dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brown tries to clinch

and Kordel counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kordel.

Kordel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Brown blocks a head kick by Kordel.
Kordel shoots in for a double leg but Brown sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Brown throws a head kick that misses.

Brown moves into the clinch.
Kordel prevents a takedown attempt there.
Brown is trying to drag Kordel to the mat but Kordel just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brown tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kordel just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dale Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Brown takes an elbow to the temple.
Brown tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kordel smiles and moves away.

Brown misses with a double jab
and Brown takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Brown throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kordel looks to clinch

and Brown counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Brown frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Brown sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Brown lands with some strikes.
Kordel is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Brown won't let Kordel get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Brown looking to control but Kordel is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Brown breaks from Kordel's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Kordel is trying to stand up.
Brown has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kordel's face.
Brown wants to control the pace but Kordel is squirming around nicely.
Kordel is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Brown trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Brown lands a heavy elbow.

Brown lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kordel is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Brown lands with some strikes.
Kordel is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Brown moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kordel has worked his arm free - good work by Kordel!
Kordel tries to escape but Brown is in control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Brown stands up and beckons Kordel to his feet.
Kordel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Brown stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Dale Brown is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brown misses with a double jab

and Kordel counters by moving into the clinch.

Brown manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Brown wants to sweep but no luck.

Kordel stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.

and Kordel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kordel wants to clinch up but Brown keeps it at a distance.
Kordel tries to close the distance and clinch but Brown swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

and Kordel counters with a thumping low kick.

Kordel gets caught flat footed, as Brown shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Brown throwing strikes from guard but Kordel blocks nicely.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Kordel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kordel is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Brown changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kordel fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Brown lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kordel circles away quickly and effectively.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Brown tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kordel swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Brown shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Brown was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
A nice elbow there by Brown.
Kordel is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Brown can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kordel is looking to escape.
Kordel is trying to stand up.

Brown tries to control but Kordel wriggling away.
Brown with shots to the head and body - Kordel looks very uncomfortable down there.
Kordel is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Brown trying to control but Kordel is having none of it.

Brown is going olschool here, as he tries to force Kordel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kordel shrugs it off.

Kordel is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Brown has hold of Kordel's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kordel manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Brown goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kordel turns into him and now he's in Brown's guard.
Kordel wanted to stand there but Brown had control of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Brown looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kordel is one step ahead there.
Brown not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kordel stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kordel but Kordel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Brown darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Brown lands with a punch from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dale Brown showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Brown has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
