The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott with a lazy takedown attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
No joy there for Ruiz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ruiz!
Ruiz lands a jab-cross combination.
Ruiz misses with a few strikes there.
Ruiz throws a series of punches but Abbott avoids them all with ease.
Ruiz fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Abbott gets the takedown into side control.

Abbott has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ruiz is trying to get back to his feet.
Abbott looks up at the clock and then as Ruiz takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Abbott smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Ruiz is not content to let Abbott control the position.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
